You would think they would televise the medal count for the members and supporters of this great comp. Ohh well while the current board is in charge this comp will go down hill.

You have hit the nerve! This is why this no longer sits in the SANFL's "highest accolade" department, no TV or Radio station is interested enough to do anything with it.
Why doesn't the SANFL make a stipulation to the stations that broadcast their games, this is an integral part of our state football coverage and to get the rights to broadcast them, you WILL COVER the Magarey Medal count, no ifs or buts, you WILL do it.
Make these guys earn their crust, don't go 'soft' on them if they don't either. P^ss them off!

The reason we can't do that with the t.v stations is because we need them more than they need us unfortunatly, the ABC would happily show a re-run of the first season of the bill if we tried to play to hard a ball with them.

my 2 cents.

Well have a crack at it, surely the SANFL has some clout in this!

I admire your passion Aceman but I think you will find that the SANFL is in no position to place demands on the ABC. If they don't do it, no-one will.
It would only take a change of policy from the ABC to stop or reduce coverage of regional comps like ours for us to have no TV coverage at all.
Players win touches, Teams win matches, Clubs win Premierships.

Congrats to both winners as they are most worthy and great players.

Yes, that was very suprising with Thomo, I know he missed a bit of footy with the broken hand but to only get 3 votes, WOW

The others who didn't poll as well as I thought they would (or not even at all) were blokes like Trevor Cranston, Jason Mackenzie, Tristian Gum, Jade Sheedy, Bronik Davies, Brad Murray, the Gowans twins and Adam Fisher

After the first few rounds i was going to put money on Thommo to win it. Then after his hand injury I thought it might cost him in the end, which it did by "just" a few votes :D

Doesn't have to be TV.
Surely 5aa would give it some consideration, after all, Bob Francis would probably like to spend a couple more hours on the liquids. ;)

Maybe the people behind the Graham and the Colonel webcast, whoops, I mean KG and the General, can get involved in broadcasting it next year....
There obviously seems to be a demand for internet coverage and that pair are supposed to be passionate about SA sport.
Wouldn't KG, an avowed Westies supporter, have loved to have been there last night whacking Ezard on the back!

Web casting is still a much under explored medium, that could long term be our saviour.

If that could be explored, in time, the TV stations may become less important.

I suppose the overall who needs who is a bit delicate, but at least there would be options for the sanfl.

How much commercial endoresment is dotted around the KG/General screen?
ABC doesn't give anyone much exposure as that is not their thing.
So there are commercial possibilities that could be developed with this form of media.

The sanfl would be wise to at least look into it.
Relying on the ABC's benevolence doesn't seem much of a long term plan to secure exposure for the competition.

I wouldn't rely on 5AA for coverage. If the Crows had beaten Collingwood last week, they wouldn't even mention the SANFL, let alone the medal.

Hell it got scant coverage today - Rowey's lost voice took higher precedence than the Magarey. The Magarey got a 2 second glance before it was back to how Adelaide lost their semi Saturday night. As much as I love the Crows, I'm sick of hearing about that game and ended up listening to a 'Collectors Edition' of Hamish and Andy.

Maybe the TV stations saw the pitiful crowd at Footy Park on Sunday and assumed people just aren't interested in the SANFL.

Switch to KG & the General then ... beats the opposition hands down.
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

Boy, things must be tight at the SANFL. Have they recalled the mobile phones of all their staff members too?

I wonder if they found the money to pay for the SANFL Commissioners to go to the MCG saturday night, or did they all stay home?

last year a mate from work put in the wrong numbers and backed Howat from Richmond to win the Brownlow, he may have played one game. Point is, easy money for the bookies via a punters error that couldn't be bothered getting it fixed.
