am bays, the reason why he is playing for his school this weekend is because it is an inter-col game which is big on the school calendar, PAC v St Peters games are always big ones.

Yes he does and the college said it's up to him, as did the club.

All private schools these days understand that for a select few, football is their career path and freely allow them to ply their trade at the highest level in the sanfl.

There may be one or two provisos to that, but after all the school experience is as important to their development as a game of football.

I was always wholeheartedly behind this at my school. There is a big difference to a Trengove situation to a kid going off to play Div 5 amateurs.

It is not that long ago when it used to be play for school or not at all. I can name a number of well known afl players that were faced with that outdated scenario.

Everyone out there in sanfl-land needs to understand the the way the college system works now. There is an agreement amongst the independent schools that has determined that a kid selected to play at the highest local league level in a sport, is able to do so, without school intervention.

This system has been in place for a few years now and without a lot of media fanfare seems to be working ok.

However, there are a number of things that impact on that that people need to be mindful of. Such as;

a) consistency
b) understanding of the kid and his level of talent
c) proper and open dialogue between club, parents, school and importantly the student

I have no problem with Trenners suiting for PAC this weekend and we do need to be mindful of what the school means to him. As others have said one final hit-out with the mates you have been with for a fair while means a lot to an 18 year old. And why should anyone rob him of that experience.

We may be older and look at it more coldly, objectively, harder and financially.

The simple truth is, that nobody I know from the SFC, has begrudged him this last game with PAC before he embarks on what is certain to be a very fruitful AFL career.

Cut the kid some slack.........we have!

Play on.

Best day of the year weather wise, its a cracker.

When was the last time the SANFL had a sell out in the minor round. It could be on the cards today.

Well the weather looked good but the wind has arrived and its blowing a gale in Clarence Gardens,. I just had to chase a chip rack through the car park. Carn Tiges, make both the Sturt and Centrals fans grumpy!
