Re Armstrong - stats really flatter some players and he is one. If people had watched him for the past few weeks then they would agree. Gets plenty of it but burns the ball badly, is soft in tackling and general body pressure (avoids any sort of hard ball) and for most of the games he is just plain lazy (or he appears that way!) and doesn't man up or chase his opponent. Pity the stats don't show his clangers or his laziness.

That column on the back part of the Monday Football Wrap up in the 'Tiser (by Zac Milbank I think?) which gives a small summary of the AFL listed players in the SANFL clearly highlights whoever writes it doesn't actually watch the SANFL and that they use the stats to make up how well a player has performed.

To be fair, it can be tricky to get out to see every game expecially if you're required to be at another game to cover that as well. It appears they do that bit by collaberation, but don't forget they have to pick 4 or 5 AFL listed players. That means picking at least the 4 best even if there aren't 4 good contributors!

Yeah but don't they have a reporter at each game, why not get them to do it as a collaboration?
(No disrespect to Zac meant as IMHO he's their best football writer by a mile)

Totally agree, i think with all this technology used to collect stats alot of people and the media rate high possesion getters way to much at times. I would rather a player who uses the ball perfectley 15 times than a player who blazes away 30 times.

Eddie Sansbury has been an example this year at Centrals. At times he has picked up alot of possesions but his disposal has been ordinary through parts, while someone like O'Hara uses the ball beautifully every single possesion.

who gives a fat rat's clacker about the umpires! If we're second to the ball, as We were at Prospect this time last year, We will get smashed. We need to play more than 1 quarter of footbal today if We are going to have chicken tonight!
