Hot Weather Policy during the finals series

Postby spell_check » Fri Jun 26, 2009 11:50 pm

The hot weather rule has been used during the minor round (Rounds 2 and 3 2005). Would it be used during the finals series? As seen below, 32+ degree days have been observed up to 4th of October:

4 10 2006 21.8 35.4
30 9 1961 12.9 35.1
3 10 1988 12.5 34.7
26 9 1987 17.0 34.3
27 9 2008 14.3 33.7
29 9 1961 19.3 32.8
29 9 1944 22.9 32.7
4 10 1970 14.0 32.7
29 9 1980 18.0 32.6
28 9 1928 16.1 32.4
24 9 1987 15.9 32.3
28 9 1944 20.0 32.3
3 10 1938 13.6 32.2

The 35.1 day was the 1961 Grand Final. My point here is that in such important matches, hypothetically a side who gets a run on is halted by the 2 minute break halfway through the last quarter and the lost momentum potentially costs them the Prelim or Grand Final. Would the SANFL stick true to the rule if it does happen?

Interesting point. My thoughts are that a club in the GF should take this into account. A push just before the 2 min break could be imporatant, knowing that you will get a breather and a chance to strategise the last 10 mins or so with the coach and players.
We used to be good :-(
