Everything alright with Shane Birss Thiele ?

I guess you just hope that he doesn't have more issues with depression after making a successful comeback the other week.

He has family commitments that is all is said in an e-mail from the club.

Good to hear Thiele, thanks for that mate... ;)

I know it is slighty off topic (but too early to post a pre-game thread a week and half out from the game) but on the League Teams Show tonight on 5RPH, Westies coach Andy Collins broke an interesting exclusive for Bloods fans to get excited about for their game next week against Sturt in Waikerie.

A young lad named Ryan Bennett is currently playing A Grade for Waikerie in the Riverland and Andy mentioned that for this game, the Bloods are actualy going to pick the young lad for their league side and give him a trial at SANFL League level.

Interestingly, Andy said he was a junior West Adelaide player and former Under 17's captain at the club but they weren't able to keep him at Richmond because he was a bit homesick and the whole work situation didn't work out.

Aparently he is a promising big full forward and was highly recommended to Westies by Mark Ruccuito. I think it is great from a marketing point of view in terms of getting more Riverland locals to come along to the game and see how Ryan goes.

Ryan played state u/18's as a full back and has played 10 or so league games of footy already. He played mainly through the midfield and on a forward flank. He can roost the ball a long way though and it is good to hear that westies are experimenting with something like this because he is certainly talented enough to be playing league footy.

If that's true I think it's bizarre. Ryan was shown to be far too slow for League footy years ago. I can't believe he's got any faster playing country footy and to put him straight in the League side would suggest to me we weren't serious about winning the game.

I think if played in the right spot his pace wont be an issue. He was overweight at his last crack at footy due to his foot injury over preseason IIRC. I do agree about the not taking the game too seriously though but one thing i think it may be good for is the relations between the riverland and the club.

After watching the game last week v Port that isn't surprising to hear he couldn't lift it above his waist let alone his head. A pity for him and Norwood and hopefully he is fully fit for Rd 1 next season.

think the club should be careful bringing in a young player from another club to play league etc. and keep one of westies regular players (ressies or league) out of the team. If he comes in would be better in U18 comp or ressies - not straight in the league team.

You maybe right but he can't go into the U/18 side and the League, IIRC, is the only side playing in the riverland so that would be the reason he is playing in the league side IMO. It should help attract a better crowd than the more recent visits to the riverland have been able to get.
