Noone seemed to think it was an issue then.

Nup 15s still exist Wedgie. They play in July.

Cheers mate, wasnt aware of that, thats a bit silly then.
I retract my previous remark then.
Whinge away.... ;)
They shouldnt have even bothered with an Under 16s comp.

That is there for the late developers because everyone is a ready made senior footballer at 17

You know the tall blokes who traditionally take time to develop as they resemble a 1 iron with ears and the skilled 17 year old smart ar5es who think they know everything and need time to mature.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

It makes it hard to develop the 17 year olds when you cant play them because of 6 blokes training with the reserves get dropped and come and play U18s.
I would think these taller players who are taking a while to develop would be better off playing against men at SAAFL level rather than boys at U18 level. When they get a chance at reserve level the guys are more mature physically.

The test of the new U18 comp will be the standard of football played and the number of juniors that progress to league football.

It stands to reason that the standard is much better in the new comp, as you're selecting the cream of the talent.

It also stands to reason that more will progress from this comp to league football than the extremely minimal numbers from the previous comps.

It also helps local clubs much more.

I know i said I wouldn't reply but I couldn't let that comment go through to the 'keeper

How can you say that when like last year in teh 19s College kids are still playing for their schools in fact given the lower age a greater proportion of the 18s are playing college footy than the 19s did.

Having watched the best 18 team go around three times this year you can not say the standard has improved.

As NM said "Dumb"

I must say I am all for the U18 comp. Been to 4 games now and enjoyed standard of footy what more Glenelg are undefeated!! Its good to also see a 4 player bench which is something I would like to see in League and 2's.

Back to topic Go tigers in U16's, hopefully someone can send score updates onto here.

am Bays, for goodness sake, the standard just has to be vastly better. I've watched a lot of 17's and 19's footy. Yesterday I watched the West v Eagles game and the standard was much, much better.

In the 17's and 19's you had a much larger pool of players and a lot of players at the bottom end of the talent pool. The numbers progressing from 17's and 19's to League football were very, very small for the time and money invested.

The 18's teams are now the pick of the talent. I know at West that the last 2 or 3 players selected for the 18's would have walked into a 19's side. You wouldn't seriously suggest that Glenelg's 18's 21 isn't miles more talented than either of your 17's and 19's sides.

The college situation is the same for the 18's as it was previously.

As for NO-MERCY, who has posted "DUMB", the overwhelming strength and well-argued logic of your argument defeats me.

Thanks to Constance Perm -

Final Score

Norwood 18.15.123
Glenelg 9.7.61

Better players for Norwood were Giannini, Forster, Rander, Ialeggio, Persinos and Grigg.

(Apologies – I don’t have any info for GFC’s better players.)

A fair reflection of the competition IMO, Norwood have been the stand out team.

For what its worth, I have seen a number of the Under 18 games this year, at club level and representative level (eg. last weeks State under 18's v NFC). Having seen this, and the Under 17 and 19's last year, I believe the standard is higher this year. The skills are clean and the style is of quite a high standard, with fast moving play and swift ball movement. There already look to be a number of potential first, second and third round draft picks from SA this year.

The clearest benefit from the competition, however, is that it has led to greatly increased media coverage, on TV, print and radio. There is little doubt that it has been far greater than the U17/U19 format and on this alone, it has to be a major boost for underage football in SA.
Can you guess where I'm calling from, the Las Vegas Hilton...
