Under 18's as curtain-raiser

Postby Hazydog » Sun Mar 29, 2009 8:07 pm

Does anyone know if having the U18's play after the Reserves & before the League game was a once off, or if that format will be used all year?

Personally I would prefer to see the Reserves on before the League, but if you are going to have the U18's as the curtain-raiser, then I would have thought it an idea to have the players details & numbers listed in the budget..
Players win touches, Teams win matches, Clubs win Premierships.

It will happen twice more for West Adelaide

It will be reserves u/18s League when the u/18s

I know that West has got it twice with reserves starting at 8.30am

I don't like Maccas Cup (u/18) games being played as curtain raisers. It's good to see the reserves beforehand to see who is in form and pushing for league selection. Watching the Maccas Cup is pretty much meh.

As previously said, if they're going to play Maccas Cup as curtain raisers, then they need to either put the team listings in the Budget or put an insert in there. That way you can follow the game and put names to the numbers.

Also, did u/17 and u/19 players have numbers on the front of their guernseys in the past, or is this another thing the AFL has imposed on the SANFL?

Just checked the (vastly improved) SANFL site. It looks like it will be business as usual from Rnd 2 onwards with League & Reserves at one venue & the U18's at the "opposite" venue at the same time.
Players win touches, Teams win matches, Clubs win Premierships.

I think on at least two occasions they will play after a Saturday league match at Coopers which is a different idea. On another occasion the reserves play the early game, then the U18's then the league.

South U/18 played after the league game and IMO that is by far the better way of going, the Reserves should be first then the League, then they might as well play the U18 afterwards and keep it all at the same venue and make the opportunity available to people who want to watch the match that maybe would not go ordinarally.

Great idea; full marks to The Panthers (tm). I reckon that would work a treat down the Bay; would give the post-match drinkers something to watch from the clubroom terraces.

You find that it was the league that programed it that way, not the Panthers. ;)

Agreed. I'd rather watch who might be pushing for a spot next week, rather than who might get drafted next year. It appears from other posters that things will revert to the norm anyway.

That would be the vastly improved SANFL site that failed to list the teams for round one and still hasn't managed, as of now, to get any scores up from the first round but has managed to put up an article headed "First Week of Drinking in Seats a Rounding Success". (Whatever a 'rounding' success is.)
