People might say it's only a trial, but for us westies fans it gives us hope, because we can see now that we will improve this year.

It's been a long time since Westies dominated even trial games, but to beat Central and then hammer Port seems to show there might be better things ahead.

It has to be said that James Ezard's form today was superb.

To keep Port without a goal to half-time was also pleasing.

For Port fans, they played an almost totally different team after half-time. Didn't make much difference.

Isn't that what a trials all about?

It was played at City Mazda ? Did'nt the cars get in the way ?

Good on ya Westies !
Also good to hear Willetts got amongst them after the shi...t he copped at the Parade.

Cupido in defense ! Same as against the Legs...what a waste. His foot skills are unbelievable...not just long kicking but his short passing is outstanding. He could kick a hundred playing up forward. In a strong team here he would be a superstar and threaten 150...ala Rick Davies with class players feeding the ball in with skill.

Dont think the Legs will be taking the Maggies lightly though, that would be fatal.

I wasn't suggesting it wasn't. Just a factual statement to put the trial into perspective. I thought it unusual, though, that Port would still be trying 36 players, plus another 24 or 25 in the Reserves in their last hit-out.

why would that be ? i would have thought the only team that could be behind the others would be central seeing they were celebrating again

NM & other port guys would ginever be safe if they missed the finals this year ? & what would you think would be a realistic placing of your team ? personally i would have them anywhere from 4th to 7th with luck playing the part with all those 4 teams
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

James Ezard was best onground by thatttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt Farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. After his form as well against Centrals the week before and west can win 6-10 games would be a good rough bet in the magarey, his form with a preseason is that good

I think a realistic expectation is to improve on last year so a finish of 4 or 5 is expected.

Assuming no horror injury run you would think if we went backward and finished outside the top 5 Ginever would be struggling to keep his job. He could be saved if the reserves win a premiership as it will show that he is developing the local talent and that it should filter through to the seniors in the near future.

I think bayman your right on the money as far as 4th to 7th & finishing there will answer your question on Ginever, not safe.

Very hard to say where Westies are at this point of time after 2 trials beating Centrals & Port.
Last year Westies had as many changes as they have this & where did they finish? bottom.
I just wonder whether Collins underestimated our comp in his 1st year.
Now he's realised the depth & standard hopefully his recruits in 09 are up for it more than the recruits from 08.
I think they'll improve dash61 to be honest, the midfield with Ezzard is a big plus which should give the forwards quicker & more accurate entry, that should see them kick more than 8-10 goals a match & win alot more games.

Even after Saturdays performance i think West will be bottom 2. They have improved and changed alot of players over from last season, but cant see them pushing too far up the ladder.
Port were very average on Saturday, lacked intencity, and wasted the ball alot. They need to move Ahchee to CHF. Barham isnt the answer there he doesnt compete well enough. I think alot of Port players had one eye on this Fridays opener against Norwood.
Ezard was easily best for West, Dangerfield did some good things, and Cupido whilst being 15kg over weight always hit a target. He played on a wing and swept across half back getting kicks easily.
I think you will find Kieran McGuinness will do the same thing for Norwood this weekend.

I don't think the Port midfielders led by Jeremy Clayton know the meaning of the word "ACCOUNTABILITY" which accounts for your direct opponent.

Mate, I think you may have hit the nail on the head with your capital letters. but I write REALITY CHECK. The swagger is back at Alberton (I'm feeling good) after some pretty good trial form, but thinking about it, they let it slip on Saturday.

That said, you learn from your losses.
