2006 was only a blip on the Sturt record since 1997. It's not like MacGowan had to build up the club from virtually scratch last year as Carman did. Still, a very impressive effort to come up from 8th in a couple of years.

I wasn't talking about the Preliminary Final, I was talking about the two years MacGowan was in charge.

Sorry buddy!

Do you consider fading like we did in both Seasons appropriate for the Culture of Sturt?

if you all remember when rick took over all the 'experts' including me had them finishing bottom or near enough to it, so rick changed the culture of the previous year as those players had just given up (for whatever reason) (i recall sturt losing the last 5 or 6 games by 15+ goals which isn't a good culture & rick turned it around )& when he took over they have looked a powerful side since then

i think sturt missed 2 ingrediants this year tim weatheralds heart & courage & darlings run & poise
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

sp, I'd be lying if I said that it was appropriate for any club. But, clubs can go that extra step, as I found out 2 years ago, and North in that year got the double chance after missing out by losing to teams not in the finals race in 2004 and 2005.

bayman, Sturt lost by 119, 104, 98, 107 and 102 points between Rounds 16 and 21. (17 was a bye).

According to the Hawk's press release, Rick played 22 games for Centrals and coached Sturt to a prelim this year.

Wouldn't Hawk supporters be expecting a bit more than a 22 game  player at Centrals?

that is interesting what you say about Darling, I was disappointed when he left but I thought the return of Wicks more than made up for that, Wicks was very very good this year

I can't believe any Sturt fans could be dissapointed with Rick (or Chris according to Fox Sports News) MacGowan leaving to go to Hawthorn.

I pose this question, would Sturt be dirty on any players such as Charlie Sharples if he leaves the club to go be placed on the Essendon rookie list, it is the same situation a guy just trying to have a crack at the highest level, even though there is a massive chance of no more advancement.

Yes of course. Sturt are a very fickle bunch. Not as bad as Norwood but pretty close.

Who of us are upset with his decision? I've personally congratulated him and wished him well going to the Hawks. Sure, we all reckon there's unfinished business, but so does Rick...at the awards ceremony the other night he mentioned Clarkson got him at a week moment, had the decision been made on Friday it may well have been different.

Once again...all the very best Rick at the Hawks.
Failure is only the opportunity to begin again more intelligently.

Why Not.
They barrack for Sturt. Not MacGowans career.

Fair enough though, its his chance , he's got to take it now.

When the opportunity knocks to take up an assistant coaching role at an AFL club you dont say NO, Rick might not have had another chance down the track so you take it when you can. Rick has been wonderful for the club, he took us from the depths of bottom back to a finals team. He definetlly changed the culture of the club and improved the players fitness, he is a very tactical coach. I say Rick best of luck at Hawthorn and you are welcome back at Sturt after your coaching stint at Hawthorn.
