adelaide oval SANFL experiance

Postby philcas » Sat Aug 30, 2014 11:40 pm

It was only my second time to AO. Anzac day was first. I planned to get to the oval early to have a good look around . Got to oval about 3pm to realise that I would have to wait until 45min before first game. Their were many others who complained as well. There was a fair crowd waiting at both ends of the ground & believe there was a heap of people waiting who couldnt get in at the start of the game all because of the gates not opening earlier.open gates 30 min earlier would have prevented this.
did any one else miss the first part of the game because of this
sort it out SANFL next week it will be worse with 3 of the biggest clubs playing espicially if norwood & port are playing first.

I wonder who from the SANFL reads these forums?

Do they have any input to what needs fixing?
I wish my remembering was as good as my forgetting

It was previously stated that gates would open at 3.45pm. Reading any of the info provided on forums, Facebook etc would tell you that so I'm not sure why anyone would expect otherwise. It would've helped if they had more gates open and more ticket windows open. The ground is obviously set up for scanned plastic passes.

]still the problem remained for people arriving closer to game time. Either open earlier or open up more gates
should not have to line up with a crowd of 12000 attending

Not enough gates open and huge line ups? So it appears some things at the new AO haven't changed!

I have to admit the twilight games looked pretty spectacular on TV!

Twi-light games have always been a pretty good idea, I reckon.

Biggest guts-ache I've ever had with either major stadium is almost having to take out a second mortgage to buy anything from the canteens with a family, admittedly something which we've worked around on most occasions. Not sure what it's like at the Oval now as I've not been there since the up-grade.

Didnt purchase any food but the grog was pricey. Having said that I fully expect to be slugged that ammount and dont have an issue with it

$11 just for a chicken burger. Granted it was quality but your local corner takeaway could do the same for around $8. $5 for a bottle of soft drink is a joke

Gates didn't open til 4pm and they blew the siren to let the staff know to do it. The staff were standing around for 20 plus before hand so why didn't they open earlier?
SMA make 25% on all food and drink sold, so no surprise its pricey. How do I know this? Some one I know was going to put a van in there but it clashed with one already there but they could still do a similar deal for $5 less on food so the mark up is still huge.

I was annoyed to find that the Eastern Gate was only open to a few o a privilege I was unable to determine. I tried showing an Adelaide Oval Football Membership AND a SACA members card and neither were good enough.

I think the food and beverage prices are extortionist. There is no need to price it so high when the Stadium is a debt free operation.

My four year old was also very annoyed he couldn't kick his footy on the ground. In his words "that isn't fair daddy. We did it at other grounds".

Had a fantastic day. Watched both great games in a superb new stadium which had 100 times more atmosphere than Footy Park. The $7 hotdog I bought was so good I had two.

This really is a forum of negativity...

I've had more problems in 2 Adelaide Oval visits this year than in 40 years at Football Park

LINE UP
Waited about 30 minutes lined up to get in that is poor considering the crowd volume
If it was a first game, could understand, but this late in the season was unforgiving

FOOD
Too expensive for a menu of basically junk food
A person in our group spent $10 on 2 slices of pizza
He tried to eat the pizza that was as hard as a rock
He snapped off pieces , as if it was stale bread , not good enough
He returned the meal
Probably a one off, so will not castigate anyone on this incident
In future I will take a packed lunch/dinner[healthier and infinitely cheaper]

The suburban grounds get it right
They have a BBQ , arguably a healthier food option

SEATING
No problem , great viewing, and comfortable
Rather like the video screens
Comfort level better than Football Park

PARKING
Parked about a mile away, so would not get caught up in the Oval car park after the game
Getting out onto Pennington Terrace has always been a bottleneck slow process

FOOTBALLPARK or ADELAIDE OVAL ?
Prefer football park in most aspects

I'll let my four year old know that he is being far too negative CC.

He also wanted some chips which I agreed to despite the $5 pricetag (notwithstanding I did think it was better value than a bucket of chips usually is at other venues) and he had a great time going to the footy and staying up late. And despite sitting within 10m of the Sturt cheer squad (who were colourful barrackers at times, shall we say), he was more worried about the policeman being cross with him if he went on to the ground.

If you think that you need some positive comments, well the toilets were quite clean, a security guard let me out a side emergency exit with the stroller (so I didn't have to walk all the way back to the north gate), the three video screens were great and the deck was in superb knick. Notwithstanding, I still think that my venue experience would be enhanced by the East gate being opened and food and beverage prices being reduced by about 15%.

I like the oval, I walked in from home and caught a free tram back, happy days! I have no problems with it apart from the lineups to buy tickets and then get in but it wasn't a huge problem. As for having a kick on the ground, that wouldn't have happened at Footy Park either, kids were having a great time on the hill (which you couldn't do at FP). I bought some hot chips to eat on my way home, to be honest I was surprised they were only $5.

Loved it, ten times better atmos than Footy Park for the equivalent sized crowd. But the lining up was shite. Get it sorted.

That sums me up too. Atmosphere was much better, hopefully after the first run they can make some adjustments to get the punters in earlier and/or quicker.
