South & Port @ Footy Park

Postby Dogwatcher » Mon Sep 23, 2013 10:07 am

Given Footy Park has only been a finals venue in recent years for SANFL sides and, also, that minor finals were played at Adelaide Oval until recently, I'm just curious as to the last time that South or Port played at Footy Park...
Port may have played at some finals at AAMI in recent time but South? The only time I remember them in the top five of recent times, their matches were at Adelaide Oval.
Anyone know when either side last played at West Lakes?

Where did South play when they defeated the bays in a elimination final in 2011?

Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Reckon Port's last game there would have been the 2nd semi in 2005.

First week and prelim were at Adelaide, not sure why 2nd week at FP, but it was the day Fergus Watts kicked 10 goals in the early game.

Port played Sturt in a curtainraiser to a Power v Carlton game a few years ago.

Okay, so when was the last time Port played South at Footy Park?
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

Did South beat Port around 1990/91 in a final at footy Park, would that be the last time they played each other there?

Yeah, you're right les, 2005 was wrong. They've also played Norwood as a curtain-raiser with the last couple of years.

That was the same year I think, but early in the season.

That was the same year I think, but early in the season.

2011 - Round 1 they lost to Norwood by three points and Round 10 they beat Sturt by 38 points.

And thankfully we haven't seen the competition denigrated to the title of an AFL 'curtain raiser' since.
