Rnd 16: Eagles v Central @ M.Thiem Hyundai Oval (Sat 20/6)

Postby Big Phil » Mon Jul 15, 2013 10:07 am

The Eagles have been probably the most inconsistent team in the competition this year and put in a very poor performance against West Adelaide, who were very good despite all their changes, putting their top three chances in jeopardy.

They face a Bulldogs outfit who did enough to get the points at home against South Adelaide, in a scrappy, dour struggle. Central, sitting in fifth spot, are now breathing down the Eagles neck in fourth position and could jump them if they win.

These two sides have had a great rivalry over the last decade and a bit and often have very competitive games at Woodville. This one should be no exception and is probably the game of the round.

The 4th and final game of the tough run since the bye. At the start of this stretch I reckon going 2-2 would have been a pass mark. Eagles have an opportunity to go 3-1 and stay well and truly in the race for a top 3 spot with 3 very winnable games to follow. The failure against West will quickly be forgotten if they can get home here. I reckon Eagles will win by 3 goals.

Interested to see if Obsty is called up this week after a 5 week stint on the sidelines; 4 of them through suspension and the last through injury. Also keen to see if Thommo shapes up for a return after the hand injury.

This will be a difficult game as we always have close tussles at Peckerland despite the respective teams positions on the ladder and past form (a bit like playing Sturt at Unley).
Wet ground and poor weather will mean yet another slog for both teams.

A real 50 / 50 contest I reckon.

I'd think Obst will play a game in the twos and Thomas will play, probably with a guard inside a glove...

Eagles by 1 goal. Have a feeling they'll be up for this one after a dismal effort last week, and on 1 June at Elizabeth. Reckon the weather will make it close. We've won our close games this year, but a flip of the coin for me really. Central are one of the few teams I would fear in the finals...
