Postby robranisgod » Fri Apr 12, 2013 6:58 pm

Former Torrens rover and junior coach at both Woodville and Torrens, George "Tuppence" Kersley has passed away. Tuppence played a handful of league games for Torrens and was part of a Torrens reserves premiership in 1935. He was better known as a junior coach where he won 8 premierships in 21 years with Torrens and then Woodville juniors. Amongst the players he coached as juniors were Lindsay Head, Malcolm Blight and Freddy Bills. When asked who was the best player he ever coached he said that it was a toss up between Head and Blight.

Tuppence was 102 years and 11 months of age when he passed away.

Tuppance was a legend in the Western suburbs and rightly so .. I'm sure he'll be sorely missed among the regulars at the Grange Hotel

wow, 102, no wonder I'd never heard of him, with a name like that I was sure I should have remembered him playing, a wee bit before my time though.

Was my late mothers godfather. Didn't know him but she idolized him. To make it to nearly 103 is truly amazing. RIP
