What happened with Young OTR, what were the "selection dramas"?

Port threatened North that if he didn't play League (which he didn't and we were not obliged to play him in the League either) they would move him from North and apparently to the Magpies! Let's see what pans out but I understand he wants to stay at Prospect so lets see if they still do it?

Hammers, I thought we looked a pacier side than last season and that was the general consensus among those I was sitting with. I think it's more the lack of experience than the pace that hit us during the night.
Also, is it just me or (apart from the two ruckmen debate) is that we are a really short side.
A few other things I noticed:

* Far too many passes falling short of the target forcing players to dive, many of which bounced in front of the receiver.
* I'd love to see a comparison of the inside 50s. I felt we had as many, it's just that they were ragged and didn't favour our players, also - see above.
* Cheap turnovers, including passing to the middle of the ground to a player dancing around like he was doing the YMCA. Don't pass to a stationary bloke in the middle.
* One of the now senior players, who I'm a fan of, was named in the best players but the number of ineffective kicks I saw him have was disgraceful.
* North look quick, fit and know how to use the ball. Dangerous up forward and run the ball concisely from defence.
* And...don't mind a bit of banter and indulged in some on Saturday night but the continual use of "fu**ing this and fu**ing that" from a North supporter, amongst the big group on the eastern wing near the scoreboard, was over the top. Some of you might have been amongst that group - it was the guy with the cherry red docs who, judging by his attire, is a Joe Strummer fan.

Great post Dogwatcher.
Wouldn't mind betting your 'Joe Strummer' fan is part of the brains trust that stands down the southern end at Prospect. Probably posts on here too. ;)
North were superbly coached by Franco and it will be interesting to see if they can maintain that standard throughout the year.
They played well late last year, then blew it when it mattered most.

Hillarious central knuckleheads complaing about swearing from other supporters , what didn't notice any of your mob carrying on when you were caning everyone in recent times or is it just now as your band waggoners have dropped off that you can hear other teams supporters ?

I've had words to fellow Dogs supporters about swearing and behaviour in the past.
Just because someone else does it, doesn't make it right.
Your mob are supposed to be better educated and more civilised than the rest of us heathens, some of you do live in Kilburn, Broadview and Enfield after all.
If you wish to swear continously and vociferously, go stand on the hill at the northern end where it's de rigeur and it's all blokes, not in a location where families are sitting.
When I stand in front of the beer van, I expect to hear blue language and have no problems with it.
When I'm with my family, I choose to take my wife and children to a less hostile environment so we can enjoy the football without having to listen to buffoons swearing.

No problems with good spirited banter - just when it crosses the line in that environment.

God, if all Is had to put up with from Central ferals was bad language and not threats of violence, actual violence near my children, flares, etc I'd be full of praise!
Dogs must be going backwards at a rapid rate of knots if their fans are in distraction mode after only round 2!
AFL players and F words, what next?
Great win North! :)

Well, if you blokes think it's acceptable to swear around families, that's the world we live in, I guess.

Well you blokes think its OK to start fights near families so god help any sort of world you guys live in.
Its a big oval princess, move if you're so concerned or get YOUR club to move the family area or make it larger.
If the offender was in the designated family area then inform security and vent your spleen at security or your clubs setup.
Personally as a responsible parent I'd never take my kids out there at night anyway. Made that mistake once. Never again.
We've never had any issues at Norwood Oval under lights unlike another supporter group.
Boohoo.

You guys? I don't believe that should be allowed at all and would back anything the club does to get rid of that element.
Princess? Resorting to insults? If I was standing in front of the beer van or on the grandstand wing and complained, call me a princess. But this is neither of those hotspots.
I choose not to sit on the grandstand wing with my family due to the hot head element. I choose not to stand on the northern hill for the same reason. I choose to sit on the scoreboard wing because there's a grassy area for my kids to play on and opposition supporters seem to have the same view as well - it's considered a safe place for families to sit.
Generally there's no boozed up idiots from either supporter group in that location.
Get a security guard? Yeah, right. Both you and I will agree on how effective that is.
I have no problem with banter and I've never suggested there was abuse. There was abusive language, regularly.
Which I found to be over the top. Let one slip, fine. No problems. Continually, yes I have a problem with it.
I've never had problems at Norwood either. And I'm not suggesting this issue was reflective of the entire North supporter group, because it was one individual, which I mentioned in my original post.

I'm sure you would probably agree with me on much of this if it wasn't North supporters who I had this experience with.

This competition needs families to support it into the future, where ever it's played.

No I wouldn't agree with it as I hear and have seen much worse. As I said, its a big oval, North supporters have been standing there for as long as I can remember, you have 9/10ths of the oval to plant your picnic rug if you're going to be up in arms at a rude word. A bit of common sense should tell any decent parent not to set up camp anywhere near the largest and loudest opposition group at such a big oval or to move, its not rocket science.
Now we've had whinges about AFL players and crude language?
What's the next ironical deflection can your lot come up with.
Were the lights too bright?

Oh yes, because this is all about my team being on the slide. Of course it is. Maybe I should have had this experience when we were Top Dogs, it would have made it more relevant, I'm sure.
We were actually there before the North supporters on the night and I can promise you that my family has been setting up in that spot for much longer than them.

You're conveniently ignoring that I had already used commonsense by not sitting on the grandstand wing or the northern hill -just as I wouldn't sit my family in front of the Taj at Prospect.
Interesting that I should have to use commonsense, when if people used their commonsense and some respect, we wouldn't be having this debate. It's not rocket science. If I'd sat anywhere along that eastern wing on the night, I would have heard what was being yelled. That's the point of yelling, so people hear you.

Anyway, I know how these debates go, so I'm leaving it at that.

Thought so. 8)

Give Kris Grant a ring mate, I've found him really really useful when it comes to incidents at Elizabeth Oval under lights!
