I think you'll find the new bloke is a bit smarter than the Chandyman
I think thats why they got DC to Adelaide Oval - he's got a grand plan to charge Port Power supporters $14 to go to the game. He reckons it should get bums on seats.
He was just ahead of his time at the SANFL.....................

ie very AFL branded, mainly there to develop AFL players, handle AFL reserves sides, not be a comp in its own right

Even with the current salary cap its hard for SANFL clubs to stop mature veterans going to the suburban / country.

If it was ever lowered to match VFL, WAFL, NEAFL levels we would as Doug Roberston predicted about 8 years back mainly an U22 comp.

The VFL & WAFL are not second to the SANFL by any means......
Go to the SANFL HQ and see what a second rate organisation it is for yourself

SANFL is the 2nd best comp in the land not because of Norwood and how it would go against Claremont and Port Melbourne. The good clubs in each of the three major state leagues are very similar in abilities IMO. Same for when Centrals Geelong and Subi were dominating their respective comps five years ago.

The strength of the SANFL is that Sturt and South would give Frankston and Collingwood in the VFL and Peel and Perth in the WAFL a good touch up. The strength of the SANFL is its depth of talent.

The strength of the SANFL is that it doesn't field teams whose raison d'être is to provide second-string AFL players with match fitness.

Bloody oath. That's the very reason I'm against Sturt and Port (or whoever), being the guinea pigs for the big boys.

The SANFL not caring about the SANFL is.

Spot on Booney. I came on here to write those exact words and then saw your post.

The way the SANFL have managed the competition over the last decade is an outrage.

14 bucks to get in is a real issue. But I understand it is just the tip of the iceberg.

I've always preferred SANFL over AFL, because of the style of play (I'll never call it a 'brand', I'm not a douche), you can get closer to the action, and has a real 'suburban' non-corporate feel to it.

As a kid, it used to be the highlight of my week to go watch the Maggies play, more often than not with my grandfather. He'd let me run on the oval after the game and get the autographs of all my favourite players, and have a Coke in the clubrooms surrounded my past and present players afterwards.

As soon as I was old enough to go on my own (13-14), I'd drag my little brother along, and do the same with him. They should allow that to happen again, so that today's kids can get up close to the players like we used to. I'd love to be able to do that with my kids one day...

Well said,

Listening to people witter on about AFL being in 'the entertainment industry' makes me want to hurl.
'People are not stupid. They know when they are being conned. And two reserves teams operating in a League competition will reduce it to a farce, a competition without a soul.'

It's a disgrace that only $1.4m is put back into SA for junior development, possibly $600k less than what Demitriou earns!! The new TAC Cup Indigenous team based at Richmond gets substantially more funding than SA also.
And it's said that SANFL clubs live beyond their means! Maybe on paper they do but you can't help but think that they deserve more of a cut of the pie than what they're getting.
