I heard that the word around the traps is Sturt and Port are planning a huge shoot out for the spoon at Alberton in the final round.
Worthy of a crowd of around 10,000 if you ask me, and a fitting finale for the season that was for these two hot candidates.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

After watching sturt yesterday I will have to change my prediction.

The spoon is certainly a two horse race out of sturt and port .sturt are certainly facing the possibility of back to back spoons.

Port and sturt fighting it out for the spoon. Great days being a sanfl supporter IMHO!!!

For the final 8 rounds, the bottom 3:
Port play
Central(h), Norwood, bye, Glenelg(h), Eagles, North, West(h), Sturt(h)
Sturt play
Eagles(h), South, Norwood, bye, Glenelg(h), Central, Eagles(h), Port
Eagles play
Sturt, bye, bye, North(h), Port(h), Norwood, Sturt, West(h)

Port play Sturt and Eagles once each.
Sturt and Eagles play each other twice and each play Port once. Altogether 4 games involving the bottom 3 clubs going head to head. Rounds 17, 21, 23, and 24 will be big spoon rounds.

Port play Sturt and Eagles once each.
Sturt and Eagles play each other twice and each play Port once. Altogether 4 games involving the bottom 3 clubs going head to head. Rounds 17, 21, 23, and 24 will be big spoon rounds.
Port have the duddest run out of those as the only team to play all of the top 4 sides. They sprang an upset today, but will be 4:12 in a few weeks if they can't spring a slightly larger one in their next 3 rounds.

South and North have to be factored in spoon conjecture, simply because they're both close enough to bottom (one win + %), and they've both lost plenty more than they've won, even though one of them's in the 5!

South are
North (h), Sturt (h), bye, Norwood, Central (h), West, North (h), Glenelg. (One thing we can say about that run, is that if they can't fix up their dire home form, they may not win another game!)
North are
South, West (h), Glenelg (h), Eagles, bye, Port (h), South, Centrals.

With North and South still to play each other twice (both at Hickinbotham), if one team can win both of them (rather than just splitting 'em 1:1), that will tell the story of who finishes higher out of those 2 sides. Generally a tough run for South. They've got a nasty 3-game run coming up in a few weeks at the end of which, unless they get an upset win, their confidence could be shattered.

Looking at that relatively easy run for the Eags, if they can play to the standard they did today (and yes, I know they've rarely managed it this year), they could certainly get 8 wins (which is probably not enough with their dire %, even though it's increasingly looking like 8 wins might do it for someone). Then, if they go into the final round having won 4 of their last 5, against a West side that might not have much to play for (if 3rd is already secure), they'll feel like they can give West an almighty shake. Yep, mathematically I just cannot give up on the current wooden-spoon placed Eags!

Because if they did make it by some miracle, I know who I'd be backing in the elimination final of them vs Glenelg.
