EHL, looking at the stats, we seemed a bit handball-happy. Was this a fault of the game plan, or due to the pressure Norwood applied? Our key forwards again only seemed to have so-so games, was this due to Norwood's defensive or midfield pressure or poor set-up/ability to work with each othr?
Also, what was the story with Day, come up as a late replacement, but didn't have a touch. Did he play two's beforehand? What was the story with Cica, Rowntree and Grieger.

An honourable loss, but at this stage of the season it's simply not good enough to keep our season alive. So proud of my Eags today but turnovers proved too costly.

Rowntree, Cicolella and Grieger were late outs.
Their replacements were Ellis-Yolmen, Culley and Day.

Day then went off early in the game with some sort of injury. Not sure what happened to him exactly.

Norwood have top spot sewn up now, will take things easy from now to the finals. Therefore didn't need to bust a gut today.

The Eagles were good today, wanted the ball and I thought their run was too much to handle.
Never seen us drop so many marks, all in all not a bad game and a good hitout for the guys

Interesting score in the reserves today

Eagles 2.1 7.6 8.6 10.11 (71)
Norwood 4.3 4.5 8.10 9.11 (65)

Norwood was 20 points up late in the first quarter before the Eagles kicked 9 of the last 14 goals of the game to lift themselves off the bottom of the table with a tense win. Eddy had 26 touches and 11 marks for the Eagles while Reinbrecht was dropped back to the 2's after a fruitless stint in the league side over the past fortnight and returned with 20 disposals and a typical 14 tackles (almost 40% of the Legs' entire count).

Not a bad game to watch, plenty of body pressure and both sides worked hard.
Can not believe the Eagles are bottom based on that performance.
The Redleg younger players continue to improve and take their opportunity. Murphy is developing into a handy, gutsy little player.
Like the sporting gesture from Parry, late tackle on Zorzi, unintentional, bent down and helped him off the ground as both players laughed about it.

So if you can trust the stats and all clubs do, the Eagles should have won that game. Oh but we couldn't take advantage of Parry's good work and the midfield got touched up 39 to 50! Heh Godden, do you think that's an issue going forward? Certainly having Rowntree would have helped, but not with any run and carry to defeat Norwood's zone defending tactics. This week will see Eddy being given a chance to change this deficiency hopefully, but what to do with Cicca? With Sumner sure to miss suspended, Day injured, I think that will work unless Rowntree comes good also.
We know Parry most likely is away next year with Cicca and Shirley to hang up the boots; What to do with Macca? Is he even part of the problem if he want's to keep playing anyway? So what if he flys in and out for games! I'm sure the other 8 teams would find a spot for him for next season in some capacity so surely it's his call all day every day!
Fix the midfield with some run and carry players that can apply defensive pressure and then Powell, Hall, Rowntree, Kane and Goldsworthy will be freed up enough to cause the ball to enter the forward lines with purpose.
And if you don't think the midfield is an issue.... HELLO we're bottom

One minor issue with yesterday's game .. Went to grab a sausage roll with about 5 mins to go in the reserves, and despite the pie warmers being full, everything in it was cold.

The lovely ladies running the place felt a bit embarrassed so Im definitely not having a go at them, all clubs face these challenges from time to time, but it's something hopefully that can be corrected in future.

Always enjoy going to Fortress Woodville, although we haven't come away with the 2 points too often in the last 10 years or so.

I think all Eagles supporters who ventured down to Oval Avenue on Sunday would have been relatively happy despite the loss. While no loss should be acceptable, all of us supporters simply ask that our team puts in 100%. I thought the eagles did that for the whole game yesterday and really made norwood work hard for the win. It was Norwood’s superior skills that got them over the line rather than our lack of effort.

Where was this effort earlier in the season when it was so important to set up our season? In previous games when we have got 3 goals down we’ve just given up and let the opposition steamroll us and we have lost by >50points. Not so today.

As strange as it sounds I think Cicca being out actually helped us given he is one the main players that prevents us going fast and direct down the ground. Grieger being out was a huge loss because I think his replacement at full-back (his name escapes me) who usually plays in the reserves looked gone everytime the ball went down there.

I need to give credit where it is due. Hall’s previous performances have been atrocious and he has deserved the criticism that everyone (including myself as given him). However I think he played his best game for the club on the weekend. Perhaps he is better suited on the wing where he played on the weekend rather than forward pocket? He will now need to back it up with some solid performances to round out the season and justify why he should be kept in the squad next year.

Jarrad’s inclusion was so important and he played really well. Goldsworthy was very good also. Parry very good also.

Players who probably didn’t have their best games IMO include Raymond who made some costly errors and Grocke and Salter who both struggled to get into it.

But all in all, a relatively satisfying performance against the top team and a fairly entertaining game to watch

Pretty good write up Mr F, I was impressed with Goldsworthy and Hall is a good young lad so was good to see him have a decent day out.

Norwood seemed to turn the ball over a helluva lot, but credit must go to the Eags for applying the pressure that forced some of the turnovers.

The Reserves game provided an exciting finish and was good to watch as well.

Hall came off late in the game with what appeared to be a serious shoulder injury

I didn't see him come off. Do you mean Staple? He was the player who came off in the last quarter with what looked to be a serious arm injury
