Yes, well done to Williams. He seems to have been umpiring better as he gets older. Liked how he would generally let the play go. Too much over-umpiring these days.

Like many, I've given him some flak over the years, most recently in the second semi against Norwood. I thought he'd lost his bottle when twice during the game he assumed the hover position where you just knew he was going to pay holding the ball, and then changed his mind at the last second and called for a ball up. To show I'm not biased ( ) one was in the Dogs favour, the other not. In fact I thought the second non decision was an evener upper!

Anyway - when I watched the replay it was clear that in both instances he was exactly right, in that the ball was released just in time to prevent the player being pinged. Just goes to show that a fair percentage of decisions we go off our nut about are generally the right decison in the cold hard light of day.

Congratulations must be offered for sticking at a thankless job for such a long time and putting up with d!ckheads like myself...

Disappointed to see him go. Still clearly the best umpire in the league and none of the others except for maybe Haussen (seems to have some commonsense) are even in the same league. Shocked that he didn't get a GF appearance as I think he deserves it.

Rowston and Dey surely have to go as they are poor and please no Frank Manikas (he tried his hardest to ruin the reserves prelim last week).

Didn't think he was the worst umpire but felt he payed too many ticky touchward ones and after comments an ex Sturt player alleges he made on the plane during the trip home from the 2003 state game against Western Australia, it was hard to warm to him.

A few of my best mates used to work with Richard at IGA and believe it or not off the field they said he was a real down to earth guy haha just kidding theyve all said he was absolute tosser of a bloke!! haha

Yes, I heard that same story independently...from the very same ex-Sturt player...who is a very decent, down to earth chap too.

Richard said on the RPH Show Thursday night that he often had a laugh when standing in the crowd watching games, he would hear his name being yelled out for a bad decision !!!
