South played some great footy in patches, particularly early on. Crabby and Ainger was terrific down back in the first half, and the small defenders looked pretty slick bringing the ball out. Not all that efficient when going forward for the first three quarters, but it was pleasing that we went back to a more direct style in the last quarter.

46 up at one stage, to win by 16. Yep, when you're a South fan you'll take any win, but it would have been good to really put a side away (Last time that happened was v West in 2007 I reckon). Good to see us hold our nerve in the final term though.

Port..well I have to say they were pretty woeful for most of the first half. Broke down continuously at CHF and South seemed to dominate the stoppages. They got on top in that area as the game grew longer though.

As an aside, it was the first night match I've been to at Noarlunga and I thought the lights were of a reasonably good standard. The misses came along for her first Noarlunga match in five years, and she thought the club did an excellent job of making the night an entertaining one. I'd ditch the music after goals though.

Five of us ventured down, via the longest road-trip ever; through Prospect, Port Adelaide, Henley Beach then onto Noarlunga. 80 minute journey and we arrived at about 6.45... We were the very last car admitted into the oval and got a good spot front row, behind the northern goals. The new bar area is excellent, and the atmosphere was great all night - it is a good set up there now. The weather was also very kind, though we did call on our pumpkin soup to warm us up at halftime. Lights in the NW corner are a bit weak, but at the southern end it is brighter than Richmond or Norwoods new lights.

We can not expect to win if we cough up a six goal start (was seriously wondering if they had enough goal-celebration fireworks to last the night). Our fight back was admirable, but the last quarter was frustrating as no sooner did we score than we let South get one back. The umpiring was bizarre to say the least, and played a part in two of those goals.

Even more bizarre was being told to go back to the wharf as we left... by Panther fans!

Best players for us were Harder, Milera and Dolling, who got a heap of it. Butcher proved a good target in the second half, as did Lokan in the final term, but like Thurgood I wonder if we gain as much from them going forward as we stand to lose from them not being at the back. A shame we could not use Maric, as I think one extra big man (regardless of his confidence/form) may have made the difference.

Big test in the next round when we face Westies...

lots of great reports about the game nights at the Panthers - starting to feel proud to be following this club, but still lots of hard work to be done.

Being in the same car as NFC for the hours drive wouldn't rate that highly either.

Having to watch a Crows game? And Mr Judd evade a few more Crow Bots?
