you are talking about a club whose major sponsor has not increased contributions since the sponsorship in the 20 years since the relationship began. Community sometimes wins over cash.

The largest undeveloped oval..? Undoubtedly

Keep it away from cricket. Agree

Car parking may be a problem, but who knows. :drinkers: More cars, more cars to steal, shouldn't be a problem

We messed up with footy Park. No we didn't

Too much concrete. Nope

It only takes $$$ Yup

Make it Multi - International world event size. Nope, bugger them - it's a FOOTBALL oval

Capable of any world event. Who cares, see previous point

Cricket Powers would shake in their boots. Nope

We don't need adelaide oval. Agree

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Football Park other than it's assumed name. Why is it that when we are only going to be there for 3 hours 10 or 11 times a year at best, and let's face it, how many blokes spend a good time in the bar or it's surrounds?, - why is it not good enough for football?

Commonly known as the best surface in Australia, sufficient snack bars, sufficient loos, great view, max. of 45 mins drive from far north, far south or far east metro., soso public transport (but it is YOUR choice to use it), adequate car parking (great parking if you are not too lazy to walk 10 minutes), great size ground - are we there for football or a 5 Star holiday?

Elizabeth is simply too far north for MOST people, much more inconvenient than Football Park and the notion really reeks of Waverley Park in Melbourne. Great stadium in an outlying residential area which just increases travel time for MOST spectators...............Doh !

Won't happen, & if it did, won't work, and for what it's worth - scrap Adelaide Oval too.......spend the money looking after my sick parents or actually teaching my kids something at school, rather than just being a WiFi hub for them.

So you didn't read the letter from Centrals about the proposed changes to the poker machine legislation then?

Reckon your club is happy about the proposed changes? Mine just chose not to sit on their hands, instead engaging their members.

We should certainly pay taxes, but considering the Govt are already the largest beneficiary of our club, we would like to retain some cash to put back into the community.

Not that its too important, but I thought he said $150,000 over five years (definitely could be wrong).

One counter point to Cornes's constant bagging of the sponsorship is: As explained thay have an advertising/marketing budget and as with any business they have to allocate these funds where they believe they will get greatest "value". This way, they believe they're are forming a partnership that will not only achieve their marketing and advertising objectives, but also retain funds in the community that their business will be strongly involved in. Additionally, there will be community based projects that the club and players will be involved in.
Should they have spent the $30,000 p.a on radio advertising with 5AA ? This would provide no community benefit. In fact Skeletor told Glenelg supporters not to go out to Elizabeth for the last game last year, a game that would determine who would finish minor premiers.
I wonder if any government business enterprises advertise on "his" station.

Good post , I never read anyone saying they were looking at going to the AFL, just a post saying "do you smell AFL at ElIzabeth" . Not a bad try though.

You've missed the point.

If the club cared as much about the community as we're always being told then it should be happy not to profit from the misery of addicts.

I think you've dramatised the point. Not every one who uses a poker machine is an addict.

But the opportunity to place yet another control over how people live there lives is too hard to resist - perhaps 'the downtrodden' wouldn't feel so downtrodden if Govt's didn't tread down on them.

I agree with you mate .. Imagine the outcry if limitations were placed on individuals as to how many drinks they could have at the footy, club, pub or home?

What about limits being placed on online betting accounts, or at the TAB or Casino .. Surely they have the capacity to be just as harmful?

Off-topic I know, apologies.
