BREAKING ELECTION NEWS - In a bid to woo the 2100 swinging voters who were at City Mazda Stadium last night both Julia Gillard & Tony Abbott have said they will look at funding putting a roof on the stadium. Both leaders have stated that never again must football supporters be subjected to a game of football played in those conditions. One leader said we dont want a repeat of a contest where we see players commit acts of bravery by throwing themselves at contests with no fear on injury and having to scrap for every loose football and every metre of ground to be gained. We should be able to recognize every player on the field and not see them covered in mud from head to toe! Never again must a game finish with such low scores, it must always be a high scoring shootout played on a perfect surface. A supporter in his 70's when asked his thoughts on the plan shock his head and muttered 'Lest we Forget' the days of and old fashioned scrap and a little rain and mud never hurt anyone. ;)

umpires are a joke
plus how can you have one ump 2 weeks in a row

Do you imagine there is some law that says the free kick count should be equal?

Or that teams have a quota of free kicks to be allocated?

It amazes me how people villify Richard Williams. I once heard supporters of both sides accusing him of bias against their team. I think it is just that he is the only one some halfwits can recognise.

The free kick count by itself isn't particularly relevant, of course, but the evidence of how they're paid is.

blackandred refers to one umpire in particular. If you look back on the previous Port v West game thread, you'll find that the same umpire's mystifying decisions almost cost West that game as well.

Any team can get on the wrong end of the umpires for a while. With West lately, it's a week in, week out certainty and it's become a serious issue, IMO.

Two weeks ago, one umpire was dropped after two shockers that cost West goals.

Last week, the journalists watching the game felt compelled to strongly query the way West were treated by the umpires and this week West get the same treatment from another umpire. Wests on-field discipline is fine.

I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but umpires are human and have their likes and dislikes.

It's obvious at West games what those dislikes are and it's become a major issue.

We won last night, so it's not sour grapes, just the evidence in front of all who were at the last two games.

so why do all these umpires hate west adelaide?

its not because of their dominant success

Or was it because of the off the ball head high contact to Chris Kane he missed or his failure to correctly interpret law 15.4.5 (d) in the 2nd quarter???

As I've said ad nauseum the umpires made mistakes both ways in the Glenelg v West game. It is just unfortunate that the media at the time chose to focus on the mistakes that affected West not Glenelg.

There was never a 3-2 scoreline in the 70s though. That's the difference.

I'm not going to obtain a copy of the match to work that out, Mr.66. ;)
