I thought yesterday was a "break out" game for Brodie Smith. Whilst he is almost certain to only play a half dozen more matches as an Eagle, he showed at league level why he is rated so highly as a potential first round draft pick. Just a smart footy player who has composure and skill to match. Kicks long and creates attacking opportunities from the half back line.

Even though it is disappointing to lose these players to higher honours, it is also one of the great things about SANFL to see a young player show his wears against quality footballers while they're green and follow their fortunes as they establish themselves as household names around the country. I'm sure Brodie Smith will do just that.

Ben Grieger - you were outstanding today, Cloke hardly got a touch, and also you laid one outstanding goalsaving tackle. BOG for me.
Welsh - should have got six goals, had you not caught the goal umpire off guard in the 2nd quarter and got the decision wrong.
Parry - so agile and mobile for a big unit. He had more possessions than Guilhaus and O'Hara would get for the match combined in the first quarter alone.

Port, once again do not let sides off lightly, however we seemed to get on top in the last but you can't let your guard down against the true Port Adelaide Footy Club! Milera cut us to ribbons in the middle for a lot of time; I reckon were it not for Grieger, he would have been a potential matchwinner today.

Unfortunately Cloke did a groin during the warm up. Credit to him that he played out the game under duress.

I agree with you Aerie, a good honest young lad with a huge future infront of him.
Good luck to him.

Port played some good quick footy .Eagles just had the answers today

Agreed.

The Eagles were all over us in the first quarter, but couldn't get shots on goal and when they did, missed a couple of easier chances, while Port made the absolute most of our forays forward.

I thought Port had the better of the Eagles in the 2nd and 3rd, getting back on top through the middle of the ground. Going into the final break with Port up by 4 points, it was anyones game.

But come the 4th quarter, the Eagles experience and desire got them on top early. Some tough tackling and better use of the ball got the first couple of goals. Port then had a really costly undisciplined act, which resulted in an Eagles goal, followed by another shortly after. Out came the fat lady and that was all she wrote.

Story of Port's season - so close for 90% of the game, but falling short when it really matters. Still, like we've said a number of times this season, there are great signs for Bangers' men. If the group stays together, I'm pretty confident of a finals appearance next season.

For me though, the absolute highlight of the day was the talent behind the bar in front of the Williams stand. WOW.  :-o :prayer: . I know where I'll be standing again in round 23...hey Booney!

Yes indeed. 5 Cougars thanks.

Another game where the Magpies show run and dash through the middle with some real speed, free running and good ball use. Then we see turn overs cost us goals at the other end. Stay in touch for 3/4 but get over run by the better team with more forward options. Lose by 4-5 goals. Season 2010 in a nutshell was yesterday.

Lots of positives and when we run and use the ball we are a very impressive and exciting team to watch. Just need to get rid of the erros and we must somehow find another big body to help Cloke and Jimmy around the ground.

Good to meet you DA.

Treeby strained a calf Wednesday night during training.
Absolutely pathetic the report against Grocke. Tony Dey has no feeling for the game.
Enjoyed the Eagles brand of footy today although not perfect they played on a lot more than they previously have and looked more positive.
Have to find another third tall up forward, Fitzgerald and Day not up to league standard at this point of their careers.
Angus Rowntree again played another great game, has had a good consistent season and seems to go unnoticed by Eagle supporters and the oppossition.
Good win by the U18s have many excellent second tier players who will not get drafted but should have long careers at the Eagles.

- Eagles better in the first quarter
- Port come back in the second quarter to be fairly close at half time
- Arm wrestle in the third quarter
- Eagles eventually too strong in the last quarter

Regardless of Port's position on the ladder you are generally guaranteed to have a tough game at Alberton, so it is satisfying to win there twice this year.

Raises our best winning streak against Port to 5. Also, our most successful season against Port, 3-0. We also had three wins in 1994 (out of 5).
Since Round 20 1998 at Alberton, we have a record of 10-6 there; and 6-2 over the last 8 meetings.

Spelly, wondering if you could find out who has the longest winning streak against PAM?

A well earnt win by the Eagles. Port , as usual gave 100% but just lack a little composure and class at critical times.
I thought Grieger, Smith, Parry and Rimmington were terrific yesterday, great support from Lewis, Welsh, McKenzie, Jarrad and the under-rated Guifreda.
Dolling was outstanding for port and 23 i thought showed a bit.
A big test for the Eags this week against the Bays as we haven't beaten them or Centrals this year.

Currently? Central has 9 wins in a row; then Glenelg with 8 (although an unbeaten run with 10 wins and a draw); then us with 5.
