SANFL Your tribe is Calling -What a Joke

Postby Inflight » Tue Jul 27, 2010 10:26 pm

Here we go again I purchased a DVD from the SANFL and here is a message to the team that signs off saying "We hope you enjoy your DVD" Kind regards the team at the SANFL No I did not enjoy the DVD I cannot believe you could supply a product that had absolutely no audio what so ever; please tell me team at the SANFL when you last saw any movie, DVD, video, film TV program or any visual media that had NO sound at all and happily take $30 from a paying customer. in 2009 you attempted to dub the visual using audio from the radio broadcast and stuffed that up, earlier in 2010 I purchased a video that at least had the crowd noise in it that made the DVD a lot more watchable but to supply a DVD with no audio at all is a disgrace. In a digital world this current SANFL outfit is very anologue
Dear SANFL footy fan here is the problem
"In economics, a monopoly (from Greek monos / μονος (alone or single) + polein / πωλειν (to sell)) exists when a specific individual or an enterprise has sufficient control over a particular product or service to determine significantly the terms on which other individuals shall have access to it. (This is in contrast to a monopsony which relates to a single entity's control over a market to purchase a good or service. And contrasted with oligopoly where a few entities exert considerable influence over an industry)[1][clarification needed] Monopolies are thus characterised by a lack of economic competition for the good or service that they provide and a lack of viable substitute goods.[2] The verb "monopolise" refers to the process by which a firm gains persistently greater market share than what is expected under perfect competition.
A monopoly must be distinguished from monopsony, in which there is only one buyer of a product or service ; a monopoly may also have monopsony control of a sector of a market. Likewise, a monopoly should be distinguished from a cartel (a form of oligopoly), in which several providers act together to coordinate services, prices or sale of goods. Monopolies, monopsonies and oligopolies are all situations where one or a few entities have market power and therefore must interact with their customers (monopoly), suppliers (monopsony) and the other firms (oligopoly) in a game theoretic manner - meaning that expectations about their behavior affects other players' choice of strategy and vis-a-versa. This is to be contrasted with the model of perfect competition where firms are price takers and do not have market power. Monopolists typically produce fewer goods and sell them at a higher price than under perfect competition, resulting in abnormal and sustained profit.
Monopolies can form naturally or through vertical or horizontal mergers. A monopoly is said to be coercive when the monopoly firm actively prohibits competitors from entering the field or punishes competitors who do.
In many jurisdictions, competition laws place specific restrictions on monopolies. Holding a dominant position or a monopoly in the market is not illegal in itself, however certain categories of behavior can, when a business is dominant, be considered abusive and therefore be met with legal sanctions. A government-granted monopoly or legal monopoly, by contrast, is sanctioned by the state, often to provide an incentive to invest in a risky venture or enrich a domestic interest group. Patents, copyright, and trademarks are all examples of government granted and enforced monopolies. The government may also reserve the venture for itself, thus forming a government monopoly."

You see SANFL I have no choice but to purchase your inferior product from you; bring back PINE LODGE STUDIOS where the camera work was exceptional the audio befiting of our great game and the delivery of product was less than a week

So SANFL if my tribe is calling I CAN"T HEAR THEM

The SANFL supply a disclaimer with the purchase of the DVD and I quote

" All footage is filmed for clubs, primarily for coaching purposes. the SANFL makes copies available to the public as a service only

All charges are used to help cover production costs. The SANFL offers no quality guarantees to persons purchasing games for entertainment purposes. No refunds are available"

How would ringing the SANFL help from the above statement I have no comeback or recourse

Thanks anyhow DEDJA

Are you sure there's no audio ? It could just be the sound of a Magpies crowd this season :?

Pine Lodge Studios used to do a great job. I have heard rumours as to why they lost the gig to this mob, but if the league doesn't sack the incumbents heads should roll in the league.

As I understand the appropriate law, you are entitled to refund if you purchased a product where you were decieved as to it's quality or if the product is not fit for the purpose it was sold to fulfil. You may be able to mount a case that you were wilfully decieved into thinking there was audio. That includes asking the sales person and getting an "I think so" (as I am under the impression at least). If anywhere you were told or read that there was any sort of audio they would be legally required to give you a refund. If the SANFL gives you no satisfactory answer, you could call consumer affairs to see where you stand.

Thanks for your advice Graham I really don't want a refund a replaced DVD with audio would be great but what I really want is for the SANFL to get up with the 21st century and to supply a DVD to coaches and public with audio from the people who broadcast on the day.I keep going back to Pinelodge Studios they got it right every time and Charles was more than helpful no disclaimers he made sure you got what you paid for. The SANFL have a great product that they need to get behind and market it so that when the DVD's are watched in the off season the paying public (me) can't wait to get back to the footy What is so hard the technology is there!?. I must add that Amanda from the SANFL who organizes the distibution of the DVD is very helpful and professional

At least you got your dvd Inflight. I tried several times to buy one of this year's games on their website but the transaction wouldn't complete. I rang and left a phone number for the relevant person to get back to me and I'm still (6 weeks later) waiting for the call.

The argument that they can't be held accountable for the quality because it's meant for coaching purposes is pathetic. If that's the case, don't charge $30 (the full price you pay for a professionally packaged complete TV series). But really, to treat their product (SANFL football) so shabbily shows they don't care enough. They might actually find if they package them professionally more people would be interested in buying them, assuming the software on their site works.

I spoke with Sean from the SANFL and they will be sending out a new DVD with audio.

I hope someone from the SANFL acknowledges what we have said on this topic and takes responsibilty for producing a better DVD; there are people other than coaches that want their product and would expect the best results from football's governing body

Could not agree with you more nickname

See, amazing what can be achieved if you ask.

So I suppose the Royal Commission isn't required now?

Sorry dedja they have fixed the sympton - the problem of getting a DVD with good audio is still, at this stage, an issue. I never intended it to be a bitch, whinge or Royal Commission I knew what was available through Pine Lodge and was bitterly dissapointed with the SANFL's product; once you pay for a product you become the customer and the definition of value for money is the feeling you get after you pay the price I am dissapointed and truly hope improvements can be made. That being said, I will still purchase THEIR product as I have no other choice (Monopoly) except when the ABC do the game then I get their ultra professional copy ($55 including postage and handling)

dedja are you closely linked with the SANFL?

LOL, the only affiliation I have with the SANFL is my membership and season ticket at the Bays.

Look, good to see you had a good outcome ... i just thought you were a tad melodramatic about it all.

I know someone who ordered a DVD earlier this year and received it before the game and funny enough the DVD was blank ... you got off lightly compared to him. x_x

Yeah I had to laugh when i received that DVD, it was Norwood v Glenelg played friday night. Got the dvd at 10am that morning they were very apologetic. Finally got the real game 2 weeks later.

I have ordered dvds from SANFL and Pine Lodge both, at times have had no audio

I understand that the DVD's don't sell in huge numbers to Joe Public so was interesting to note that at Woodville a couple of weeks ago for the South game as there was no radio coverage the league sent 2 guys down to do the commentary to go with the vision...this was something Charles used to do for non broadcast games.
Trust the process.
