Congrats to all the teams and especially a cheering crowd without any dramas (at least when I left). Well done to Longies - that B grade comeback was gold, 9 goal last quarter!!

You'd have to ask one of the 25 assistant Ram coaches jammed in the coaches box at 3/4 time drinking Johnnies, ably supported by the A Graders singing "Whey hey hey, - Goodbye".

Re: Adelaide Plains Football League

And...just looked at the scores 9-0.
Yowser.

To be fair to those boys on the ground, it was an extremely long match with 35 goals kicked between them, so a lot of extra time. The Rams had spent a lot of petrol tickets and Longies were coming home with a slight breeze, maybe 2 goals worth. Once the avalanche started and the crowd got involved it was too much to stop.

The big fella (aka Ronnie Biggs) that kicked 7 was great.

I heard the skipper tell the boys at 3/4 time that it was a 10 goal breeze!
He was wrong. It was only 9 goal wind!

The crowd was fantastic, best I've ever seen. Not too often you get 6 teams all barracking for you. So to all those that were cheering for us thanks for making that game an awesome experience.

Also, congrats to Mallala. Best side all year, probably deserved it. Sorry I didn't watch any of it. :D

Re: Adelaide Plains Football League

Couldn't be further from the truth.

Doing a good job tip toeing around this one as I suspect you can't say any more than you have.

My mail is that there are a series of numb nuts (one or so from each club) that provide 'not so funny' information to a single numb nut, known as the informer. This numb nut changes from year to year. This numb nut then picks the worst or most satirical of the information and puts it in for print.

Who these people are is not really important, rather that the most senior numb nut of all thinks the informant is funny, and keeps paying for/employing the service.
Some of it is funny, some of it not. Some of it is true, some of it isn't. Mind you, if it's in that article, it is often said or discussed amongst people before it hits that page.

Re: Adelaide Plains Football League

This internal (return to league) transfer is one of the most stupid things I've heard of and is specific to BL&G. What happens when someone leaves a club on bad terms, leaves to another league, then wants to return to another club. Why would a league want to put restictions on the returning player (who would be classed as an import to the new club anyhow)?
Secondly, with all due respect to the player mentioned here, but a "hefty transfer fee" sounds a bit rich for this class.
Thirdly, with country leagues whinging about rising player payments and cost of running a club, why would the league have a rule that fosters transfer payments?

So you think it would be Ok for say Jay Nash, Scoott Dutschke or Brayden O'Hara to return to the highest bidder rather than give something back to their junior club that made them the players they are now. If they want to chase money do it in another league, their original clubs shouldnt have to compete against them.
Same with your average local player that a club develops, develop your own instead of poaching the neighbouring towns best player just because you have more money than them.
I wish the BL&G forum discussed the BL&G this much. :(

I heard this story recently actually:

The Two Wells lads were invited to a barbecue at Bugs' house after the 2013 grand final to drown their sorrows.

The boys were sitting around the fire, tucking into some pork chops and a few CC cans when mighty hounds noticed Bugs' dog walk over and sit nearby, wagging its tail and staring at him.

"Hey Bugs," mighty hounds said, "How does your dog always know when we're having a barbecue?"

"Well mighty hounds..." Bugs replied, "It can see us for a start."

Re: Adelaide Plains Football League

So, what do we think of the rule about clubs not playing trial matches after the season has started?

There is a huge issue with the overlapping of seasons developing lately.

With the 2014 year expected to start on April 5 and cricket (Stanley comp) to finish March 29, there really is no time for trial matches for anyone who plays summer sport, particularly cricket.

It's getting ridiculous.

Question that this raises for me is - why? What problem has the rule solved? Why was the rule introduced?

I know the APFL has always been anal about clubs playing trials if they have the bye - some BS about reducing crowds at the other games ... blah blah

Its pretty clear that team who have the bye first week get an extra week to prepare for their first game. Given the short time frame between cricket and footy, an extra week during that period, when no players have other sport committments and are able to play an extra trial game for footy is clearly an advantage.

Re: Adelaide Plains Football League

Any truth to the rumour of Scott Galbraith to Virginia for $700 and him being their boom recruit?
And Ricky Thomas to Longies for $550?

Both dramatically overpaid IMHO.

Scott Galbraith played at kilburn the last 3 seasons and averaged about 5 kicks in each season.
Ricky Thomas played at Salisbury North and has been living in the shadow of his younger and better brother Daniel Thomas.
Are they overpaid? I'm saying yes, but time will tell.

A bloke from div 3 getting $700? Would wanna be a key position.

Proko will be great for the kick long down the line style that longies play.

Since 2007, the big man has played at West Adelaide, South Gawler, Whyalla, North Clare, Bute and is now looking for a fresh start somewhere. Is he shopping around or do these clubs get rid of him? Seems odd given how much talent the bloke has.

Re: Adelaide Plains Football League

I would say the Barossa FC A grade team, for one, would be highly competitive in Div 1 amateurs - is that what you are asking? I'm not suggesting every country team would be, but what I am saying is that Div 1 amateurs is not the "our shit don't stink" standard the city folk seem to think it is.
For you to say that no country teams would be competitve in the A1 is an absolute joke. There are numerous country footy sides that bat past their top 10 players. You don't need 18 stars in your team to be competitive.

As for the 3 sessions a week your questioning...... you said it yourself twice train and one recovery!!! Over the course of the season its three times as many sessions that most country players train.

Remember what my intial post was all about - the fact that more and more gun players don't want to play amateurs!

Re: Adelaide Plains Football League

Yep Swamp. Joel played quite a few A grade games prior to last season, but couldn't break into the heavily loaded side Gawler Central had in the season past. Might be one of a number of young blokes with a little bit of CDFC experience going to the Bombers. Throw them in with Zanandrea, L Norman, R. Darwin, Collings, Wedding and Henneker, and there's the basis for a regeneration at Hamley (if they can keep them all of course)

Seems a much more logical way forward than the one they've taken in the past. Is Zanandrea playing on?? I heard he is sniffing around for $$ with Goodie in the SE.

What's so puzzling about that swamp.

Guess I should reserve my judgement until the building works are finished, but in its present form the changerooms are a disgrace.

I think you'll find that the place has been knocked down and renovations have commenced. Should be all complete by TW first home game

Really? Thats awesome. Looking forward to checking it out. Must admit the playing surface seemed much better last season.

Re: Adelaide Plains Football League

I wasn't implying that either.

I was just saying (for those who've never witnessed Jimboss play) that he's an asset to any given side, despite what that video highlights feel suggests.

You'd hope that was the case, given he's an import. Who are the other three players heading out with him?

I'm not sure who the other 3 are (if I have been told, I've clearly forgotten), but I think there's one A Grader, and I think one, if not two, of the other two are fringe A Graders. Don't quote me on that though, I've been known to cock my information up.

If Solly kicked approximately 60 goals in Div 1 last season, what would that be worth in the APFL? Having never seen a game in this league, I'm unsure of the standard.

The goals are the same, the rules are different and APFL is more physical. From the "highlight clips" the bloke didn't appear to like much contact, granted this was 2009. He might not get the possessions required to kick goals.

Re: Adelaide Plains Football League

Interestingly Virginia certainly offered Solly considerably more than United are paying. Not sure if that speaks more about Jamie or more about Virginia? Anyway, as a player, i like to think that im playing in a strong country footy league. The better the players that come to this league then the stronger we are i guess. While we are not at same standard as BL&G, we are not that far behind anymore.
Definately infront of YPFL, NEFL & NAFL. Just my opinion but i guess we should expect to be as we are closer to Adelaide?
