Because my club said "yes" to AFL reserves without bothering to make the slightest effort to consult with me I did not renew my membership and did not attend a single game. If you had told me 12 months ago that i would no longer be a member and would not go to a single game I would have laughed and questioned your sanity.

Like some others have mentioned I did not receive an email or phone call from the club asking why I had not renewed. But then I already knew that they didn't value their members (refer no consultation in previous paragraph).

As Arie said, habits are easily broken and there is a lot of other things to do on a weekend. I feel little but contempt for the club I used to love.

"Port" got handed a GF spot and very nearly a premiership. Their GF spot was at the expense of a club who had not played in a GF since 1979. Absolute joke of a "competition."

Sure clubs need to make decisions that bring onfield improvement, but even as an outsider looking at a club like the Bays, once the club started embracing the Snouts and everyday supporter their fortunes appeared to soar.
And they then went and undid all that good work achieved under the Metcalf regime when never consulting members on the clubs decision to support AFL reserves in our comp.
Only an "information" night telling us what they'd done and then answering minimal questions showing nil respect to those who tip money into the club year after year.

As Stringer was running off the field after the final siren, a North supporter got in his face & may have shoved him. Stringer IIRC gave him a quick jab & simply kept running off.

You're probably right. Remember the game quite well, big crowd of around 10,000. Bays got over the line by 8 points IIRC after North kicked the last 3 goals of the match, including an Antrobus snap over his head in the goal-square. Recall seeing Sticks Kernahan in the crowd as well.

What the AFL would do is irrelevent. Their rules are different to the SANFLs which even has a precedent in 1975 when the Eagles were not only guilty of having 19 players on the field against West but the players hid and ran away when a count was requested.
The SANFL took no action against the Eagles.
If a club that has a count called against them and deliberately avoids that get no action taken against them then there's no way a team that doesn't get asked for a count and doesn't try to hide anything will get any penalty.

There really is no comparison between the 2 situations. In 1975 Fred Bills replaced Cassin while Cassin was still in the process of being carried off on a stretcher. His mistake was not to wait behind the boundary line until Cassin was removed from the field of play. As there was no actual play while West Torrens had 19 men on the ground, they did not receive any advantage,

In the prelim on the weekend North received a tangible, meaningful advantage at the start of the last quarter. When you are 20 points down at the start of the last quarter it is obviously important to start well, if you don't kick the first goal you are in trouble.

I don't know what the correct solution is, but there is really no comparison between 1975 and 2018, in terms of the advantages gained my the teams guilty of having an extra player.

The SA Football Video Archive was established in 2011. The intent was to build an archive of historic South Australian football footage and preserve it in digital format and make it available on YouTube.

In order to achieve this we uploaded previews of footage rather than upload it in its entirety, in order to give incentive for these with footage to come forward and offer it for trade.

This strategy has been very effective. We started with a couple of state games and grand finals and over the course of the last decade have collected a massive archive of footage, including over 1000 games.

From June 2021 we will commence uploading all available footage in full. The first upload, featuring over 300 games occurred on 21st June, 2021. YouTube links to all of these games are available at The Archive page here:

Brilliant by sa football video archive to upload the remaining games they had. It's great that instead of all this footage by individual people being left in a cupboard where no one would ever get to see it again is now online for everyone to see. It was a fantastic idea by the sa football video archive team and a big thanks to them.

Hopefully other people will continue upload more of these games and hopefully the sanfl history centre will upload the heap of games the have online soon.
