Re: Grade Cricket

Where does all this saca revenue come from????? Saca members??? SMA??? Afl attendance????....... Any chance of a bit of this funding making it back to grass roots
You mean like this?

http://www.cricketsa.com.au/content.aspx?p=1210

Or this?

http://www.cricketsa.com.au/library/2014%20Gear%20Up%20editable%20a4.pdf

SACA makes money from membership, sponsorships and profits derived from cricket events at Adelaide Oval, plus 50% of non footy/cricket event profit through SMA. That's a basic version of it.

Re: Norwood & the salary cap

From?

Someone present at the meeting where Gillon McLachlan spoke. His words, from my understanding, were quite strong but "we will crush you" was a little of an exaggeration.

As such, the Norwood salary cap rumor might be an inflated version of the story, if the source of the two rumors/comments is one and the same then it might be a case of over playing the information they were given.

I must say it is totally unlike Centrals supporters to behave in such a manner. Just buy your membership boys, you care more about our club than yours.

REB

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19)

So China are a little slow here.
I would like to think that as a country, we are already thinking about hiw to try and reduce our reliance for China.

Now they trying to scare those that trade to china.

There's an increasing number of small businesses that deal with China, mine included. The panic in my suppliers communication since CNY has been palpable, factories going bust all over the place (they have millions of factories so it's probably something PRC aren't too fussed on just yet).

My manufacturing base has now officially shifted to Pakistan - this was our plan anyway, it's just been escalated. Lots of people I speak to regularly are dong similar.

But interestingly there's a significant number of people who are determined to ride it out as they see China as only becoming a cheaper place to manufacture with a better level of service due to all of this.

Re: SANFL 2020 Season

How likely would Channel 7 be able to recoup some or all costs to telecast matches by selling the matches to overseas markets? The UK and US would see some interest, especially to sports starved fans, who I'd imagine wouldn't care much if it wasn't "AFL standard"?

For Los Angeles, if a match was to start at midday here, it would be 7.30pm yesterday there. A match that starts at 3.30pm here would be 7am in London.

They wont be sport starved, all the european football will be kicking off before our sport here in Oz.

German football league starts back this weekend, EPL in the first week of June and many others commencing in amongst all of that.
God help us all if soccer is enough to get by on.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19)

Will be interesting to see which country leagues will or wont go ahead with their short season

Think I read Whyalla footy league calling off their season. As the guy said, they have 14’s, 18’s, B and A Grade, supposed to clean all the change rooms between games, who is going to do this. Just too much work and all too hard.

I fear there is way too much of a knee jerk reaction here. People are making decisions based on the current position which is wrong.

1/ Its way too early, 4 & 1/2 months of potential footy season left
2/ Restrictions will ease, clubs won't need to play under current requirements
3/ SANFL have a road to getting back to play, they wouldn't be doing this if it was not possible
4/ If a league cancels its season, nothing to stop players going to a neighbouring league (clearances have just opened again), will they return to a league that jumped too early?
5/ Can you imagine calling it too early then in late July and all restrictions have been eased, its a perfect day for footy and there is none on

I feel for the juniors, some seniors might not want to risk their employment for no pay which is fair, but juniors have a different motivation, they just want to play and are hardly impacted by CV.

Youre right, junior footy could start this weekend. Seniors should start in about April 2021. I think you are in your city bubble to much to see what detrimental effect attempting to play this year will have on small clubs away from the city especially if not every club can put a team on the park.
You are only as good as your weakest link, if this means the strong clubs have to forego a season of footy so the weak can survive then thats what we should do.
That might be true, but why should the response be any different to the one offered by those in the country bubble who've operated either outside of or without salary caps to the detriment of city football?

Re: SANFL 2020 Season

Very disappointing for Menzel to understate the situation. He’s a fighter though and will back up again.

Butch to play at CHB is the word ... which I would have loved to have seen a couple of years ago. Reckon he will be very effective in that possie.

How long did that take to be worked out ! I recall saying that years ago. The bloke can mark and will need a runner to handball off him. I still think its a desperate and backward move. Develop a young guy I think.
We'll just grab one from Davoren Park then, thanks for the tip.

Re: AFL 2020 Season

Seen it now.

Today its a flat no to teams coming here.

Yesterday it was no to not having to self isolate.

It would not be fun being in his position. Making tough decisions based on facts is not as easy as making popular decisions based on emotion. True, he needs to make the tough calls, but I think he is wrong on this one.

We can test them every day if need be.
The same players who have proven they can't be trusted to do the right thing?

AFL footy is terrible anyway, play it elsewhere. Go watch SANFL.

Re: SANFL 2020 Season

I hope you're not counting WA v CD as a thriller. Very disappointing and a night mare.

I did a bit of a count and CD had 7 switches i.e. short kicks back and forth across goal etc which contributed 3 - 3 to WA score. Central also had 13 kicks and 5 Hand balls that went to Westies with 1 of the hand ball resulting in a goal. West kicked 9 and hand balled once to Central.

I don't guarantee full accuracy of these stats but they would be very close.

Hate this stupid Victorian AFL style of game. AFL coaches have a lot to answer for. Also why do we have this stupid last touch rule? Get rid of it.
Unless a close last quarter where the lead changed hands and the result wasn't know for certain until the siren went isn't a thriller, it was one.

Your frustration (which I share) doesn't mean the SANFL would not be thrilled with the games as a whole, I imagine.

We've been our own worst enemy so far, some stuff that's quickly fixable, some will take some time. We will win some games and there is an air of enthusiasm around the young squad that hasn't been evident for a while.

Be great if we did away with draws, they really suck.

Re: SANFL 2020 Season

NA V WWT
This match started 7 seconds late
The ump bounced the ball to start the match , and it was recalled
The ump threw the ball in the air- by the time the ball was motioned in play 7 seconds had expired

Should the SANFL/AFL add time on for these instances ?
Can I get life time on for reading this?

Re: GRIMA GONE

All things being equal I think he would've got extended.

I think what we'll find is that with AFL ex-assistant coaches looking for work, it will come at the expense of inexperienced coaches like Grima. Which will I think, make the SANFL better for it.
In most respects I agree, but the value of a club man can't be lost, they will become vital to clubs futures and if you can land a great club man who will stick around then you're not recruiting a new coach every few years.

Will he stick around though if an AFL gig presents itself.

Keep in mind he chose the Crows gig over a lead Centrals gig only 6 months ago. If he hadn't have been sacked from the Crows he would not have had interest in us.
There's a $ difference there too, plus he's developed and the landscape is very different now.

Re: R19 Eagles v Centrals Sat 2.10

I keep hearing the beef but it's about more than numbers.

Most aren't of league standard, getting a game by attrition.

The club is in a hole of its own making, hopefully the slow turnaround has begun with a new coach this year and new off field leadership next year.
