Re: Ch9AFL Division 7 - 2017

and shirley its time for morell's annual betting book?

Very early days but here goes:

Para Hills - $1.10
PAOC - $4.00
St Pauls OS - $8.00
Adelaide Lutheran - $9.00
Adelaide Uni - $15.00
Mitchell Park - $15.00
Flinders Uni - $20.00
Central United - $20.00
TTG - $40.00
North Pines - $80.00

This bookie most worried about Central United and TTG at those odds. Will have to dial them in I think

66% loading. Don't like it bet with Trader.

Re: Ch9AFL Division 7 - 2017

They're standing on the same pitchers mound

For god sake give it a ****ing rest about Para Hills. They're playing divvy 7 end of story. Stop being a sook who's thrown his toys out of the cot
While only .001% of people read the garbage on here, so it probably does not worry you. It cant be doing Mitchell Park any favours OR...you get a great big black dog up ya? How does that sound?

Don't like what I post? - don't read it.

Want to discuss something else? - start a conversation.

But you're probably too daft to conjure an original thought of your own so instead spend your time potting the people that are generating content.

as for doing Mitchell Park favours. Yes, I am sure my posts on here will have a *huge* effect on our fortunes this year. I am just that powerful and all sentient being that through the mere stroke of my keyboard I can influence the future! Puhlease, get a grip.

My posts are my thoughts alone, not Mitchell Park's, as has been explained countless times. I have no role at the club this year other than hopefully being a player. Half Back Flanker has already posted on the clubs behalf.

What I can tell you is the vast, vast, vast majority of people involved in D7 in 2017 agree with me. The only people pushing back are either trolls from higher divs, being hypocrites of the highest order or don't understand the argument - which one are you?

Re: Salary Cap Investigations

The inherent irony in bragging about being more professional enabling a the professional party to successfully cheat a community football salary Cap hurts my head.

In any event it will be interesting to see what, if any, chips fall with the CFL

Respect your posts jo172, here's a scenario for you to analyse, an x junior of your club got drafted to the AFL, after a few years he got cut. He returned to his SANFL club and played in a premiership. He wants to come back to his junior club to finish his career. What do you offer him, bearing in mind clubs outside SA have given him a guarantee of $100k plus, which includes a job, assistant coaching role and senior player. What I'm saying is how the hell do we keep them when we are all favouring the current cap but are getting smashed by those who don't give a f..k.

Take away the Premiership and the literal thing happened to us last year and I can confirm a "professional" close to the Metro area club has no qualms.

Take away the frustrations of it all and we remove TPPS and APPS and it all gets very Darwinian. I suspect that's not in Community Football's interests
I have a huge issue with lumping in all associations as one.
There are some very well run clubs/associations out there and why should they be penalised because other clubs/associations are poorly run?
I just don't see the need for both a salary cap and a points cap. Should only be one or the other. It's interesting that ultimately it comes down to whether you're a capitalist or a socialist. In my mind - why should clubs that aren't in as fortunate circumstance as others not be able to exist merely because of others greed?

We also really need to get away from this notion:

lots of $$$ = well run
not much money = poorly run

You could put a moderately trained monkey in charge of some of the clubs that have wineries, farms, pubs and the entire community of a small town bankrolling them. On the other hand you could put Bill Gates and Warren Buffet in charge of others and they'd still struggle.

This forum got into the nitty gritty of it previously, but footy in general is in a competition with opponents that are stronger than they've ever been: Soccer, Basketball, UFC, Music Festivals, Video Games etc etc etc

The landscape has changed. It's no longer cricket in the Summer and footy in the Winter as the only options. We need to protect the variety, history, culture and charm of all clubs that contribute to the fabric of football to ensure there are as many as possible gateways and options for everyone and anyone to throw on the boots - from the just short of the SANFL young 21 year old gun on $800/game in the country, to the old man hanging onto his youth in C3, to the disenfranchised and struggling single father who needs a social avenue... they all have their place and deserve the same amount of respect and support.

If we lose that respect and keep following an unbridled capitalist path which services only the top end - we will pull at the threads of the fabric that enables our sport to thrive. Clubs will fold. Kids will play soccer instead. Interest will decrease. Numbers will decrease. Attendance will decrease. Sponsorships will decrease. Funding will decrease.

Some might say "good, we need fewer clubs" but they'd be forgetting that a lot of those clubs, like Mitchell Park, still provide access for people to play the sport. Some of those people go on and play at a really high level.

So although we compete on Saturdays and for players, as clubs we're actually in all of this together - which is why a consistent points (with all its flaws, granted) and salary cap apply. If we're healthy from the bottom to the top, everyone benefits.

Re: Salary Cap Investigations

Its a simple equation really.

Penalty for transgression >>>>> Rewards for transgressing

Need to make it so that when administrators are evaluating risk, its a no-brainer decision.

If these clubs have grossly cheated, and it is cheating, their affiliation for 2017 ought to be brought into question.

Re: Ch9 AFL Division 5 - 2015

Whoever thought of the insurance business model and managed to convince people of the time that it made sense, must have been some kind of magician - "hey, give me money all the time, and I might give you some back in an emergency, if I decide to, provided you have given me more money over the course of our agreement than what I might be giving you back". It's a complete rort and I personally avoid any insurance unless I am forced to by the government.

My personal misgivings notwithstanding, I think protecting blokes income if they choose to play football will be the new competitive paradigm for Clubs moving forward. It might not be who is closer, or who is more chance of a flag, it will be, who has the better coverage on their insurance plan - much like it is for employers in the US.

Mitchell Park slipping out due to massive loss of depth. Central United wound in big time. Little bit of value for Para Hills since I am such a good bloke.

Little bit on QF Quinella on Para Hills v Central United, Mitchell Park to make the 5 and the rest of my account on Para Hills minor premiership and Premiers double. *** Insufficient Funds ***

Re: Ch9AFL Division 7 - 2017

They'd beat us and beat us pretty easy lads, get your hands off it.

Not true!!!

Half the women would be off injured and the other half would have nothing left in the tank with 100kg men battering them. Very true!!

They're fitter and faster than most D7 sides I've seen. It would depend on the conditions but on a dry deck with a bit of space, they'd absolutely carve us up. There some phenomenal athletes running around in these teams.

And 100kg men battering them? We've got a couple of 100kg lads but they would be able to batter anything other than a doughnut.

A D5 or even good D6 side I think would be too strong, but far out at D7 level half the guys can barely run.

Re: Adelaide Footy League Division 6 - 2017

Beef, training numbers have been a long fought battle at TOS, and lets face it in todays world they aren't alone..
Correct - not many clubs going around footy or cricket that haven't struggled for consistent numbers at training over the past couple years!

Out of curiosity, what do people consider "good numbers"? I've seen anywhere from 15 to 55 on the track on various nights.

Personally i think around the 30-40 mark is good, especially if it's top end players - easy to operate training drills etc and skill level usually pretty good.
Well done on being honest lads. Everyone tries to hide it but in reality I think its fair to stay that on average training numbers have been on a decline for all clubs over the last few years.

Mixture of shifting priorities, changing work hours, changing home balance etc

We would probably average something like 25 I would say. Obviously we only have two teams and we have a smaller squad this year. I keep trying to convince the powers that be that you're only going to get 40% of your squad in Jan, maybe 50% in Feb, hopefully 60% in March and then into round 1 - 110%

So if you've got a squad of 50:

10 cricketers
5 dudes who work nights
5 injuries/sick
5 Dad's with family commitments

You've already lost half your squad legitimately and not accounting for the bullshit excuses.

It's the new normal, sooner we all get over it the better.

Re: Ch9AFL Division 7 - 2017

Update on morell's market!

Para Hills - $1.15 Holding steady, rumours about poor trial game results vs teams 30 spots above them proven to be utter folly
Adelaide Lutheran - $5.00 Improvers. Good results in a trial and some positive recruiting. Dark horses and this bookie is wary.
PAOC - $8.00 Dropped down a tad as potentially fielding a different string side to last year.
Central United - $8.00 Hearing nothing but positive things and training has been solid. Wound in.
St Pauls OS $10.00 Smashed by Houghton, wound out a bit, could be value here still.

Adelaide Uni - $17.00 Lost some value as money shifted to other options. Still around the mark as they have 4903 players
TTG - $20.00 Wound in big time. Enough quality in here to be very competitive. Would've won the flag if it weren't for a very strong MPFC in '12
Flinders Uni - $25.00 Not sure with the crabs and the market reflects this, hovering just outside the 5
Mitchell Park - $30.00 Lost depth and players and are struggling. Old hands looking to prop the place up again.
North Pines - $80.00 Not hearing much from out there, not much in the clearances and really struggled last year.

Don't normally but the umpires in Para Hills. V CUFC were the worst I've ever seen, and by a long long way. Players literally had no idea what the f*}k was going on
Our A Grade ones weren't much chop from all reports but they never are.. part of being in D7 unfortunately.

Re: Life ban

and just quietly...

That Facebook post (now removed) typified the exact sort of bogan, testosterone fueled, neanderthal bullshit that the video ensconced.

There were people calling out women with sexual oriented abuse for having an opinion
There was threats of violence and retribution
There was homophobic slurs
There was libelous accusations directed towards the league

and worst of all most of it was misspelled.

If this Callum bloke wants to get reinstated, posting that was probably the bottom of the list of decisions he could've made to get back in. Clearly, to me anyway, he hasn't learned that his decisions and actions have ramifications.

My suggestion would be - Mitchell Park need a regular B grade Umpire this year, we also need someone to help out with Juniors. Come out and do that for 12 months - rather than whinging on Facebook to your knuckle dragging horde to satisfy your own sense of misplaced disgruntlement.
