Re: Official Statement - Withdrawal of Para Hills

The Para Hills Football & Sports Club Inc invites you to attend our Annual General Meeting to be held at our clubrooms on Wednesday 21st September at 6:30pm. We are seeking applicants to fill the following positions on the committee: Chairman (2 years), Vice-Chairman (1 year), Secretary (1 year), Treasurer (2 years) and general committee members (1 or 2 year terms). We are also looking to fill the specific roles of Senior Football Director, Sponsorship/Fundraising and Facility/Equipment Co-ordinator.

Further, we are in the process of forming a separate Junior Sub-Committee (which will report to the main committee), consisting of Junior Secretary, Junior Welfare Officer, Junior Coaching Co-ordinator and Junior Home Match Co-ordinator. Ideally we would like to have assistants for each of these roles also to lessen the load for all involved. At least 2 of the sub-committee members will need to be elected to the main committee.

Importantly, the coaching sub-committee has worked its way through a healthy list of applicants and expects to make an announcement within the next 2 weeks, please stay tuned. The Adelaide Football League has informed us we will be likely re-entering the competition in Division 7, with a small chance of Division 6 depending on positioning of other teams. We hope this will enable us every chance of success in our returning seasons.

We would like to thank all existing committee and sub-committee members for their work to date and welcome anyone new who would like to get involved in this exciting new era of the The Big Reds. Get involved and make a difference. If you require any further information on the above, please don’t hesitate to make contact via parahills@footymail.com.au.

Reminder: 2006 premiership reunion at our clubrooms from 7pm on Saturday 27th August. Come along and celebrate our past.

Graham O’Brien will be the senior head coach for 2017 (A grade), Graham has a wealth of experience coaching in various senior roles, Graham has the same passion as the club does to get us back to our former strengths.
Mark Podzuweit has been appointed the reserves (B Grade) coach for 2017, Mark coached our C grade to a Prelim final in 2015 and is keen to see both grades succeed in 2017 and beyond.
The Para hills Football club congratulates both Graham and Mark on their appointments and are looking forward to the future of our Club.

Re: Ch9AFL Division 7 - 2017

WOW, it’s been a busy few days on here, the PHFC senior teams haven't played footy together now for nearly 14 months and by the time we play our first game it will be well over 18 months, yes we have been busy trying to get things right, yes we have a few old players coming back as well as some new faces to the club as well.
We are just happy to be playing footy again in 2017 and I'm sure the league will review our list, and put us in the most appropriate grade, we don't care where we play we just want to be running around the red black and white again.

Re: Ch9AFL Division 7 - 2017

To be fair, at the moment, don't think 11 players will have the dominant affect you think - they'll be good, but don't think they'll be the calibre of Smithfield or Salis West.. it's still half a team made up of B/C graders.

They'll be good in Div 7 - prob flag favorites - but unless they recruit another 10 genuine A graders they wouldn't make much impact on Div 6..
Yup:
if they stopped now and rounded out their side with oldies and reasonable B Graders and they'd still be the team to beat IMO. If they keep adding recruits it'll be Smithfield '14, Salisbury West '16 levels of dominance.

And Thach played in their D5 flag.

No wrong Thach, it was Win Thach

Re: Ch9AFL Division 7 - 2017

I'm a tad perplexed as to why the Para Hills situation is significantly different to the Smithfield of a few years ago and even Salisbury West of last year.

My suspicion is that the last lustrum has more or less normalised this kind of thing.

When Smithfield came we said nothing, when Salisbury West Came we said nothing, by the time Para Hills came there was no one left to speak up perhaps? Smithfield and Salisbury West both had a year/years of struggle and then became really strong over a season or two.

Para Hills are literally going to go:

D5 Flag > non-existent > D7 Flag

If that was:

D5 Flag > struggling with one team > D7 Flag
or
D5 Flag > non existent > D6 middle of the table

This would never have been raised. It's this notion of clubs and teams simply not willing to tough out a year of losses which is at the real core of the argument.

The notion of being "gifted" a D6 spot when they were last in D4 its utterly nonsensical when looked at through the viewpoint that they will have a year of easy games and frivolity in D7 instead.

Do you think PHFC would rather be in a higher division? I know their senior leadership do. Well, they're a community of perhaps many hundreds of people. Some probably would some probably wouldn't.

I cant honestly say that the bulk of the club would like to be in a higher div, but unfortunately we don't really have a lot of say at the moment. I guess nothing is set in stone yet and given the talk about other clubs that may be in a similar situation to PHFC in 2016 I'm sure the league will make the appropriate changes, and who really knows what our team will be like this season, there's a lot of new faces around the club atm

Re: Ch9AFL Division 7 - 2017

It doesn't have to be that complicated or rigid.

Just something like:

Clubs in Divisions 1 through 7 will follow the promotion and relegation system as per the above rules and regulation except where The League's discretion dictates that the evenness and equity of the competition itself is at threat, whereby The League shall have the opportunity to place individual clubs in the appropriate division given a sufficient period of consultation with the affected parties.
Opens up a large jar of pickles. Gives the clubs a chance to dictate where they will play everytime they go broke and then have lots of money to spend again. Example PARA HILLS.

Para hills never went broke, and also paid all its fees to the league in 2016 as per every other club in the league, 2016 had nothing to with money........
