Re: Australian International Summer 2023/24

Marsh is 32 and I reckon it's fair to say his form since mid-Ashes has surprised us all.

Green made 38, 28, 0 and 3 before Marsh replaced him in the third Test and made that run a ball 118, it's been Marsh's spot to lose since then so I don't think they really need Green and Marsh in the side for bowling, but I reckon that want to get Green settled in the batting line up and at gully.

Re: Australian International Summer 2023/24

I don’t get the love for Green.
Sure he’s gonna be a good player but why shouldn’t he be made to wait like good players in the past.

I’m bringing in Bancroft to open and making Green score runs at State level first.

He's 24, can bat at 5 ( averaging 33 ) bowl at 140k's ( averaging 35 ) and might be the best gully fielder we've ever had, that's what.

He's actually a sign the Australian selectors have an eye for the future, hard to believe I know!

No, Woodshed, the old Big Shed in the backstreets of Royal Park. No I haven't been there for a music gig.

Quite a few goods ones coming up, my "future" son in law is playing there in Feb, couple of good covers ( Bon Fire - AC/DC and Aus Motley Crue Show ) in March, can't wait. A metal / beer bar walking distance from home!

Bailey has just confirmed Smith is opening

What happens if Smith fails and Green makes a couple of tons?

One less petulant, unlikeable bloke in our team. Thats not a bad thing. Then we just need Marnus to struggle for this calendar year and we can finally like the team again

They became far more likeable last week in Sydney.

Re: Daily Golf - Where you are playing and how you go

Went around the front 9 at West Lakes yesterday afternoon and as I'd only played the back 9 previously I enjoyed the front better, more variety and less of the same same par 4's. Par on the 6th after hitting the stick up hill into the wind the highlight and belted the drive down 5.

Haven't played since September and went 47 off the stick to not completely unhappy.

Once I've done the lessons and 3 months I'll probably just pay as I go, at $30 for 9 with a member I reckon I'll just do that as I can't really see myself committing to the money required to be a 7 day member just yet.

What beer(s) will be sold at Adelaide Oval during the Aus v WI test match?

On the Hill, mid strength, every where else from memory had the normal arrangement.
What Mid Strength?
And what beers are apart of the 'normal arrangement'?

XXXX on the hill I think, in the other bars Draught, Super Dry, 150 Lashes.

Re: Your poison of choice?

I really like the south coast pale ale from pirate life. Love it out the tap too

Bit of a shame really. With Pirate Life 2km from my front door this is just about the only one of their current beers that I rate and I rate it highly, actually think it's better out of a tap. The 3.5 South Coast Mid is a good one if you're driving, the Mosaic is good but the pale, the sours and the whatever the hell they are "crushes" are garbage. The food there is exorbitant and the beers barely palatable other than the two mentioned above, the repetitious doof doof they play all day every day makes the place uninviting. The Big Shed gets far more out of me than Pirate Life do. Better beer. Better food. Better music.

Re: Things that make you sad.

That’s an interesting point.

Certainly the old days where we were all told to shut up and suck it up didn’t help, but have we gone too far the other way?

Don’t know, but the world seems much more complicated than it used to be.

IMO opinion no, we haven't, the severity of the root causes has though I think.

Be open and honest and talk to people when you're struggling, if the cafe is out of almond milk just get on with it.

Absolutely it is. Imagine being 23, trying to save for a house, find a life partner, navigating the social landscape? No thanks.

Didn’t we all have to do that though?

I know I think differently about this than most others.

It is not the same, you cannot think for one minute it is.

Re: Things that make you sad.

I just did a quick and dirty loan serviceability calculator at ING

On $45K per year, a single person could borrow $143,000. Two kids on $45K each, with $1800 per month expenses, can borrow $336,000. You're not getting anything for that...

And if you do you're living in the arse end of nowhere and doing nothing because the $336k loan is $2000 per month to pay.

The reality is so far from people's understanding that it astounds me at times.

There is simply no way you can think living, working, saving, buying a house now isn't harder than it has ever been.

Re: Things that make you sad.

Did you take out the $7000 per year to run a car?

Drive a shit box that only requires having 3rd party insurance.
Won’t cost half that per year.
Catch a bus or walk when you can.

Dont need a flashy car either at that age.

$80 per week fuel - $4160
$700 rego
$600 service

$5460 with no insurance based on no repayments at all.

Re: Things that make you sad.

$150 on food, when did you last shop?

We obviously eat very differently!

Box of weet bix and 2l of milk = a week's breakfast.
loaf of bread and jar of peanut butter = a week's lunches.
5x coles roast chook, 5 pack of steamed veg = 5 of 7 dinners
Then get yourself a fillet burger combo from KFC once a week, and a pint and parmy deal once a week at the pub.
Add in half a dozen of each apples and bananas for snacks during the week.

Weetbix - $6.00
Milk - $3.00
loaf of bread - $4.40
Jar of peanut butter - $5.40
Chooks - $12.50 x 5 = $62.50
Veg - $5.00
6 bananas - $5.00
6 apples - $5.50
KFC fillet burger combo - $11.45
pint and parmy deal - $25.
-------
$133.25

Enough left over for a tub of ice cream and a packet of mixed lollies for the odd dessert.

Sure, its not the most glamorous set of meals, but once again, we get down to choices. Are you trying to get into the housing market, or are you wanting to eat out 5 nights a week?

Like anyone is eating that for a week.

Mate, all you need to do is eat peanut butter sandwiches every day for 10 years and you can buy a $350k unit. Who said the Australian dream was dead? F*cking kidding me these blokes.

All the news reports about the cost of living pressures obviously doesn't impact upon this, the amount of people who are only ever employed on a casual basis making loan applications almost impossible, people paying rent are obviously excluded from these sums as it could only be people living at home. The insular nature of the "acai bowl and avo toast" comments are dripping in "I'm a Boomer and I'm ok Jack".

Re: Daily Golf - Where you are playing and how you go

Took 3 hours to play 9 at West Lakes yesterday. 3 ladies all over 65 playing their first ever round ahead of us. I counted 21 on a par 3 for one. Another played 5 shots before she moved her buggy. Didn't matter as ahead was just as slow, well, nearly.

Perfect storm though. Club had Match Play championships on in the morning and apparently they were taking 3 hours to play 9 themselves and it just rolled on across the day from there. Our 1pm tee time ended up being 1:22.

1 par, 3 bogeys and 1 scratch on the 9 holes in windy but perfect conditions.

Pucovski hit on the lid again and retires hurt from a Victoria second XI game.
Surely it’s getting to the point where he has to have the decision taken out of his hands

Just watched the incident and it's fairly innocuous, looks like he got more bat on it than anything else. He batted on then went off and over or so later, I'm guessing it was purely precautionary but I wholeheartedly agree. The likely hood of him becoming an international cricketer is all but gone and he should look at what lies ahead for him after cricket. Terribly sad but his health is far more important.

Re: Australian International Summer 2023/24

https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/stats-wi-s-first-test-win-in-australia-since-1997-1418727

1- Australia's eight-run defeat against West Indies was their first in a day-night Test match. Australia won each of their previous 11 day-night Test matches. In contrast, this was West Indies' first-ever win in a day-night Test match, having lost all their previous four games.

2003- West Indies' last win against Australia in Test cricket - by three wickets at St John's. West Indies played 20 Tests against Australia in the previous 20 years, losing in 16 while another four ended in a draw.

It is also the first win for West Indies in Australia since the ten-wicket win in Perth in February 1997. West Indies lost 15 of the 17 Tests they played in Australia between the two wins.

8- West Indies' win margin in Brisbane is their second narrowest by runs in men's Tests. They defeated Australia by one run in 1993 at the Adelaide Oval while defending a target of 186. Six of the twelve men's Tests to be decided by less than ten runs have come against Australia.

10- Test defeats for Australia at the Gabba out of the 66 they played. Sunday's defeat was their second in four matches at the venue since 2021, where they did not lose one in the 31 played between 1989 and 2020.

1- Previous instance of Australia losing a Test match after declaring in an innings at home. Australia declared their first innings on 395 for 8 despite being 54 behind West Indies in the 1988 Perth Test but lost by 169. Overall, this was only the fifth instance of Australia losing a Test match where they declared in one of their innings.

5- Players, including Shamar Joseph, with a seven-wicket haul for West Indies against Australia in Test cricket. Three of the previous seven-fors by the West Indies bowlers came in Australia only.

Joseph is also the first visiting bowler with a seven-plus wicket haul in Australia since Matthew Hoggard's 7 for 109 in 2006 at the Adelaide Oval.

2- Players with five-wicket hauls in their first two Test matches for West Indies. Before Joseph, only Fidel Edwards accomplished this feat, with five-fors against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in 2003.

2- Bowlers with better figures for West Indies in the fourth innings than Joseph's 7 for 68 in Brisbane. Curtley Ambrose in 1990 and Roston Chase in 2019 bagged eight-wicket hauls - against England in Bridgetown.

11.5- Overs bowled by Shamar in Australia's second innings. These are the fewest overs bowled by a player in a Test innings for West Indies while picking up seven or more wickets.

216- Fourth-innings target that Australia failed to chase at the Gabba is the lowest for them at home in the last 25 years. The previous instance of Australia losing at home chasing a lower target was 175 against England at the MCG in 1998.

9- Batters, including Steven Smith at the Gabba, to carry their bat in the fourth innings of a Test match. Smith is also the first opener to carry the bat in the fourth innings since Dean Elgar against India in 2018. The previous Australian to carry the bat was David Warner against New Zealand in 2011, also in an unsuccessful chase in Hobart. Smith also became the first opener to carry his bat in Tests since Tom Latham against Sri Lanka in December 2018.

3- Travis Head is the third to bag a king's pair in men's Tests for Australia, after Adam Gilchrist against India at the Eden Gardens in 2001 and Ryan Harris against England at the Adelaide Oval in 2010.

AUS v WI at the Gabba is the second international cricket match where exactly 1,000 runs were scored.
600 runs combined in 1st inns for each team
400 runs combined in 2nd inns for each team

17th of November 2018 was the last time that the AUS men's and women's sides both lost an international cricket match on the same day

In Test match #2524 was the first time a side has ever won by 8 runs.

The players want to play Test cricket. The administrators must make it work. There needs to be dedicated windows for Test Cricket

12 weeks in Northern hemisphere in June-August, 2 x 3 test match series. Sides could play one home and one away.

12 weeks in the Southern hemisphere in December-Feb 2 x 3 test match series. Sides could play one home and one away.

( Or 1 x 5 ).

This leaves Sep-Nov and March-May open for World Cups, IPL and pointless T2o internationals.
