Re: 2025 Fixture Dates

Playing local footy on Gather Round weekend only adds to the spectacle in my view.
There’s plenty of ways to leverage local footy to make Gather Round even bigger.
Having to miss weeks due to Easter and then Gather Round is a bit annoying.

Understand it’s a non-starter but imagine how good it would look to tourists if all the parklands clubs (Blackfriars, Uni, PAOC, CBCOC, Pulteney OS, Lutheran and Old Ignatians played home that week.

Truly look like a city consumed by footy

Re: 2025 Adelaide Footy League - Division 3

Also heard O'Dea from Marion has gone to PHOS

with his dad no longer coaching at Marion, good time to give it a go at a higher level

Old man has gone to PHOS as an assistant also. Sounds like he got the flick from Marion rather than finished up. Must be a shit bloke, prelim, GF, prelim - sack.

PHOS have done really well to pick up a couple of long-time servants at Marion. Significant part of the growth in that club in recent years since joining AdFL. Went from easy beats in SFL to one bad qtr of footy in a prelim away from D4; how quickly some clubs forget about loyal servants... Pat is a great pickup playing-wise and Michael is an excellent footy brain joining the coaching ranks.

Re: 2025 Adelaide Footy League - Division 1

Don’t know what’s worse - the way you post, or what you post.

Also things like the salary cap are in place equally to protect clubs from themselves as much as maintaining an equitable competition.

Clubs are answerable to their members.......equitable competition :D :D :D :D ........2/3rds of clubs aren't within salary crap
Equally they’re answerable if they break the rules and are caught ala Gaza.

Maybe 2/3 clubs are over the cap, won’t know unless they’re caught.. but that’s the risk the run if they go outside the parameters and it’s a long way back.

Do you think AFL should do away with salary caps and equalisation methods?

If you got rid of salary caps in the AdFL it would end more clubs than it helped - clubs would either go outside their means, or be outspent by a rival.. it would severely increase the number of mercenaries that run around shopping themselves as well. No matter what way you look at it, it’s not sustainable for anyone.

Re: 2025 Adelaide Footy League - Division 1

See I have an underlying suspicion that i'm not sure anyone has ever tested is that on a macro level the salary cap has caused a global increase in player payments. This was certainly the case when I was on the Committee of a club when it was brought in.

Paying players used to be extremely subjective, whereas putting a cap on the amount spent on the team and an individual player caused an objective view as to what someone was worth and entitled to. If you were otherwise paying less than the cap this caused an inflationary effect.
I feel there is merit in this.. but now that the cap has been in place for a while, and players have become increasingly aware / confident in judging their "worth", if the cap was removed, I can't see it going backwards, but instead potentially significantly increasing what a club spends?

Re: 2025 Adelaide Footy League - Division 1

Salary Cap is about SANFL not losing players to local footy.

All that is needed is the player points, if clubs want to spend dollars so be it, they will either succeed or they won't and will suffer the consequences. Player points was designed to even the competitions, it should also stop clubs loading up with players and force development.

The only unfair aspect of the points system is the old scholars having the advantage because some kid went to the college, which totally ignores that in the formative years community clubs developed them.

Having been involved with both College sides and Community clubs sides I've grown sick of this argument. College sides have the exact same access to those players who were at their school as the Community club does. If they played juniors at the club they are zero points, if they played College football they are zero points. The community club would then need to have a look at why the particular player would choose the College side over them surely. Many College footballers return to their community club when they finish school.

For River Murray - this means I am in favour of the current APPS.

Totally correct. The junior can qualify for either the old collegians or district via years / games played
If they have never played senior football, they can also go and play anywhere for zero points.
But, getting those facts into some idiots brains is impossible.

Re: 2025 Adelaide Footy League - Division 1

As a majority of his games in the last 24 months we’re with his home club he’d be returning as a zero, if he didn’t play for a season after doing his acl and only playing 2 games, he’d also be a zero as he’d played less than 5 games in 2 years

Yes it would make him a 0.

If he'd only played 19 in that time and doesn't have a reasonable case for an in season injury, he'd still be 1 point for that 3rd season

Re: 2025 Adelaide Footy League - Division 1

Wristy - player points rules are the same for all leagues with the exception that the AdFL doesn't need to tinker with the allocation each club gets. The AdFL divisional structure takes care of equalisation policies therefore everyone from D1 to D7 gets 15 points to play with.

The rule you refer states: A registered player who achieves 20 Matches (without transferring) for the same Affiliated League Club will reduce one (1) additional point in their third (3) season after achieving 20 Matches.

So if a player comes to you as a 3 pointer e.g. played the majority of games in last 2 seasons at A grade level at another community club or majority Reserves at a SANFL Club - they drop to 2 points in their 2nd season. Then provided they reach 20 games during their 2nd season they will drop to 0 points in their 3rd season.

But to be clear with this rule. If finals mean you might achieve 20 games in your first season, it doesn't matter. You still can't get the additional point reduction until the 3rd season.

The same applies to a SANFL League player who has never played for your club previously. They start at 4 points then go to 3, then 1, then 0 over the next 3 seasons

Thanks for the clarity. Had the very question - Bloke played his 20 all in his first season but he will be a 2 this year and drop to zero next year. Retention is crucial.

Re: 2025 Adelaide Footy League - Division 6

A lot of those clubs above park some blokes in their C/D/E grade who should be playing way higher (although some are older and just looking to get a run around and a kick for fun after playing high level footy for a while). Makes for some horribly uneven competitions and weekly blowouts.
Nah, think it's more a reflection on the strength of those clubs too be honest - and whilst a tough season for some of us teams, it's a great opportunity to develop, improve and ultimately understand the level and depth we need to get to as a club if we want to be good in the future.

One Club having a big meeting tonight apparently, and it's not the one mentioned above

Would think it is Portland as they have been struggling last few years with player numbers
Is there an outcome from this meeting (if it happened)??

Any chance the meeting had something to do with the redevelopment of the facilities? Think they've been programmed away from home for the first 9 rounds due to works.

Irrigation works, not facilities

Keilor FC Player Payments Disciplinary Committee Hearing

Tuesday, February 25th, 2025 at 10:09pm
League Statement
The EDFL wishes to advise of the outcome of Keilor FC's Player Payments Disciplinary Committee Hearing.

A Player Payment Disciplinary Committee, appointed pursuant to the EDFL Player Payment Rules, heard charges laid against Keilor FC arising from reports made by an Integrity Officer.

The Committee found the Club in breach of the Player Payment Rules:

- by exceeding the Allowable Player Payment limit of $100,000 by a total amount of $605 in the 2022 season; and

- by exceeding the Allowable Player Payment limit of $110,000 by a total amount of $45,100 in the 2023 season.

The Committee imposed the following sanctions:

1. Keilor FC will forfeit the 2023 Senior Men’s Premier Division premiership.

2. Keilor FC's Allowable Player Payments limit will be reduced by 15 per cent for each of the 2025, 2026 and 2027 football seasons.

3. Keilor FC is fined $50,000, with $20,000 of the $50,000 suspended pending compliance by Keilor FC with the EDFL Player Payment Rules for the 2025, 2026 and 2027 football seasons.

4. Keilor FC will be subjected to Allowable Player Payment Integrity Reviews, at the Club's expense, at the conclusion of the 2025 and 2026 football seasons.

"The integrity of our competition is paramount and we remain committed to upholding the rules and regulations of our league, and our expectation of clubs to adhere to those rules and regulations," EDFL Chairman Ian Price said.

"We will acknowledge Keilor FC's excellent cooperation and full disclosure throughout the Integrity Review and Player Payment Disciplinary Committee Hearing.

"We also acknowledge that the Club’s breaches were not dishonest or wilful."

$605 a bit rough when dealing with a scale of a $100k cap albeit hard to see how you breach the cap in 2023 by 40% and it not being dishonest or wilful.

Re: Salary Cap Investigations

Yes and to encourage retaining players building a sustainable club not just having 22 imports from Adelaide every week.

I agree with everyone's critism of equal points across the board, but this quote is getting harder and harder for clubs and may be the one reason we see the points increased in the future.

With many towns populations dwindling the days of purely relying on locals is sadly becoming a distant memory. For many of these smaller town sides to continue they are going to need to bring up more and more people from Adelaide.

Round 3
Adelaide Lutheran vs Blackfriars OS
Houghton vs Ingle Farm
St Paul's vs Rosewater
OSB Lonsdale vs Fitzroy
Para Hills vs West Croydon

One of St Pauls vs Rosewater will remain undefeated after this round. Delicious match up.

Para Hills will get their season firing after two close loses, and Weetra will kick a dozen.

Hard to see Lutheran beating BOS based on first two round results, but I hope they do.

Houghton vs Ingle Farm will be a beauty, as will OSB and Fitzroy.. will get more idea on where everyone really stacks up after this week.

When was the fight? Would love to find the video and have a look :)
About 20-25 mins into first quarter

Couple of very good rights thrown there. Shit tackle from the Portland bloke though, should have got a couple of extra weeks for that sling.

Fair play to both sides in that no one else appeared to try and escalate it further.

All blokes who came in appeared to do so with the intent of breaking it up. Turn the clock but 10 or so years and that gets real nasty and ugly. Not these days which is a great thing.

Re: 2025 Adelaide Footy League - Division 7

Agree with your points, but I've got it around a 15 goal turn-around from what I would have expected. Players need to believe the message they are getting. If I was part of the Hackham committee I'd have been doing everything possible to make it work for the coach as it appeared to me that he had buy in. Maybe he needed extra support to ease the load, maybe Tuesday trainings picked up by someone else for a while, maybe have Saturday nights off etc. They need to find a quality replacement. Heard a couple of interesting names today.

Somethings are more important than footy...

Great day at Flinders yesterday, obviously stoked to get two wins for the first time this year for Parkies, but as importantly the tradition of playing in honour of Martin Botiuk, former player of FUFC who passed away in July 2017. MPFC and FUFC whilst having a strong rivalry, will always be connected in this tradition.

Help is available. Call LifeLine Australia on 13 11 14.

Re: 2025 Adelaide Footy League - Division 6

Fixture at this stage is as planned and we will play our home games following Fitzroy.

Been a number of curve balls thrown our way, which hasn’t helped, but the league have been good and given us feedback on basic needs / requirements to host which I believe we will have finalised ahead of our home games.

Just had to address concerns around umpire change-rooms, safety around the oval with containers, toilets / canteen facilities etc.. all standard.

We will run our canteen upstairs in the kitchen, which we have been doing for jnrs so far - not ideal, but better than nothing.

Upgrades won’t be finished until Oct now, so the need for our home games to generate some income is critical - the expenses don’t go away!
