Re: Southern Football League

Who would Port Noarlunga be playing in the first finals, Sproule will miss that if its 2 weeks.

Depending on results this weekend, it will be either Flaggies or Reynella. If they beat Reynella this weekend they'll play them again the following week in the first week of finals. But if Reynella win, Flaggies.

Re: Southern Football League

Just seen the sunday GFs are at South Adelaide, wtf? Its sucha soleless place for the sat comp gf and now do it for sundays when it used to be excellent atmosphere at dingy

Can ironbank provide a full juniors? Or do we get more gaps ina full sat program?

My mail was the female club delegates wanted the grand finals at South Adelaide. Association wasn’t particularly supportive but it’s what the clubs wanted. 100% agree the atmosphere at a local club compared to the baron expanse of South Adelaide is astronomical.

I believe they have to have a full suite of juniors for submission to the SFL.

Why do you say that Dutchy?

Coming from a very very long way back. And now Ironbank is gone i struggle to see them getting a win unless they’ve signed 5+ decent ones.

More than confident they will win a few games in 2024

I bounced some info I heard last week that Turner from Glenelg is going to Echunga but got nothing.... but was back in the same front bar and talk is the have also signed a former West ruck a huge fella and a player from Goodwood/Goolwa that they said is pretty handy also but it was discussed over a few beers in a hills pub.... beers and snitty was 10/10.

Re: Gaza FC - Salary Cap Breaches

The fines are there as a deterrent. If a club ignores the deterrent and then doesn't cop the fine what deterrent is there for others to be compliant.

Plenty of clubs being compliant and having to suffer the consequences of those not by missing out on recruits or losing players to overs being offered outside the cap. And then having to play against those clubs bolstered by their disregard for the rules. And then copping it from members saying why aren't we as good as that club down the road.

I have no sympathy for those who break the rules, especially to this extent.

Re: Gaza FC - Salary Cap Breaches

Send them back to z division, minimal fine so the club can still survive. Halve their points allocation for 2 years.
If they introduced criminal convictions to presidents/boards would that stop all the shenanigans with player payments?
I mean are boards committing fraud by keeping two sets of books?
It wouldn't stop a sponsor from slipping a couple of hundred in your pocket after the game I know .

Exactly, the salary cap is easily worked around, ditch the cap and tighten the points system.

Really surprised that Christies went down to the Emus on the weekend.

Saints loss came out of no where, mightve got caught looking to the finals early

But what could be a blessing in disguise coming up to finals, the young lads know that all 21 need to play at 100% to get the job done as any team can win on the day. Its set to be a cracking match vs valley

Unless Noarlunga has an upset over Reynella, they might miss out on finals. Did they the grandfinal last year?

Yeah, they did, with the comical acquisition of "star" recruit Matt Eagles. No wonder Sauce got the medal for best on

Seem to have a few injuries, Schulz has barely played this year, he's a massive loss for them in the ruck. Plus, zero juniors coming in as they neglect having an U17.5 team...

Re: Southern Football League

Righto, enough kicking teams when they're down.

Anyone give Valleys a chance against the WIneflies this weekend? Was a shellacking by the Flies in round 3, but only a 3 point game last time they met in round 12. Interesting that game was on the bigger deck at Valleys too, should suit them this weekend at Porties.

Valleys definitely can give them a shake. The younger legs might be good enough to out do reynella this week. Should be a great game.
No chance, Flies by 4 goals.

I'm not sure about no chance, the Flies didn't look like scoring against the Falcon's depleted backline on Saturday.

Need to make better use of the dominance they'll have in the ruck if they want to roll the Vikings.

Re: Southern Football League

Wrapped to be wrong on this one congrats flies, my flaggie mate aint happy plenty of injuries, old blokes playing to long and a kid played who was concussed and not 100%

Geez you come up with some crap . The "kid" is in about 26 or 27, got concussed in the massacre of Porties, and had met the 21 day stand down policy.

There were 3 "old blokes" playing, Kirk absolutely wiped the floor with Marshman, Shearer got cleaned up early and didn't have his usual impact, and Smith looks like the hundreds and hundreds of goals he's kicked have finally caught up with him.

Was the lack of another tall or two that was Flaggies undoing, in the conditions a couple of bigger bodies would have been very handy.

But well done Winies, great to see a team filled with juniors get the win, unlike some of the mercenary teams populating the SFL.

Any other news? Porties will be looking to improve after straight sets last season. Fair bit going on in the GSFL and Hills but havent heard anything for SFL>

A couple of returning players for Flaggies, heard Borholm is pulling the pin at Reynella too. Schulz out for the $hoe$ as well, there'll be a few relieved ruckmen in 2025!

Morphett Vale picked up a bloke called Tassone from Mildura, that's about it officially so far.

Re: Southern Football League

Borholm is the B Grade coach now isnt he. 2 big rucks out of the league. The Vale looked a long way off last year so need recruits.

Yeah, on their FB page it was announced he's coaching B grade. To be fair, he played forward more than ruck this year, and Schulz missed a heap of games through injury, but they'll both be big holes to fill.

MV's juniors weren't much chop this year either, they didn't have a team in any grade make the finals. All of their coaching announcements are ex players so maybe this might spark some recruitment for them. Historically they've had a really strong junior group but it's fallen away a little of late.

Re: Southern Football League

Thanks for the rundown. Do you think the types of rucks are changing, the really big bodies like Schulz are being replaced with younger more mobile rucks?

I'm sure Bodey would appreciate being called younger!

Probably how the game is trending, most of these guys can play as a key forward or back if need be. I'd say Smith and Bode are the true rucks running around currently. The rest are all still big units though, 6'5 or in Pokoina's case built like Atlas.

Wilson from Valleys nearly got himself killed a couple of times against Flaggies, there's a huge step from rucking as an athletic kid in the U17s to going up against big boys who want to smash into you. Credit to him, he did a great job, but he's not going to last very long if Valleys persist with him there.
