Re: The Ashes 2017/2018

Real happy the boys got the job done. Our bowlers were outstanding again. As much as I've disliked him geez Mitch Marsh was good to watch, strikes the ball so cleanly. The one guy I've been most impressed with in the three matches so far and in India is Pat Cummins. Can't remember who posted last week but it makes a difference when you have Cummins coming on first change bowling 140/145 kms compared to Pete Riddle bowling 125/130 kms.

Smudge continues to impress with the bat, he just looks has so much time and is doing it with such ease!

Twas me TDK, having that bloke who can bowl quality fast bowling first change makes a huge difference. The opposition just don't get that letup. No matter what my opinion of Smudger as a captain is he is a once in a generation batsman. He's that much better than the rest of the team it's ridiculous.

Re: Things that make you sad.

In the car with my 10 year old daughter today and she blurts out "I know Santa isn't real". I know I've probably been lucky it's taken this long for the penny to drop but still my first thought was sadness. More so when she followed it up with her best friend finding out a couple of years back, they grow up too quick. She could always take up a religion if she wants to continue the tradition of believing in imaginary figures

I know it's drivel, but when the reality that they know it's crap smacks you between the eyes it still stings. The sooner they grow up the sooner the pain starts, on both sides.

What do you mean by the last sentence? Curious newbie father asking.

Not trying to sound soppy and emotional mate but a dad always hopes that their kids never grow up. You always want to shield them from the world, when they start discovering even comparatively mundane things as Santa they start finding out the world ain't exactly a paradise. You seem like a pretty rounded and sensible bloke, all you can do is do your best. You'll be right lad.

Re: The Ashes 2017/2018

Having a chuckle at your bowlers talking about how they work hard on there batting and tailenders should get used to bouncers. Maybe your tail should learn how to play spin and swing considering in the past few years they have been one of the worst tails in the world being only better then the minnows. Feel like there is some hypocrisy in what Hazlewood said.

I agree. After 2000 and something days, he had every right to. He didn't. He showed decorum. Good on him. I have a lot of respect for the guy now. Warner carried on like a tool on day 1 after being lucky on 99.

Re: Netflix

The Real Football Factories. 6 episodes on football hooliganism around England. Deadset f***en nutters.
This show also caught my eye, I thought it might provide an interesting insight into the ugly and inexplicable world of football hooliganism. I watched the first couple of minutes of the first episode, and its tone and the host (forget his name) with his 'orright bruvva, well 'ard, innit, na'what'a'mean' Sarf Lahndon cockney lad attitude turned me off. It seemed to be more of a celebration/glorification of 'tough guy' hooligans rather than recognising, explaining, and understanding why such a ****** up thing exists in civilised societies.

So, am I right, or should I give it a proper go (orright then bruvva)?

Danny Dyer likes to portray himself as a bit of a toughnut but you could tell he was shitting himself a few times in this series. Well worth a look, you can tell a few times Dyer can't fathom the reasoning behind why they do it and that they are proud of it.

Re: The Ashes 2017/2018

Been thinking over this series, and don't know if it's just me imagining it or not.. but am I alone in thinking the commentators, every opportunity they get praise the efforts of those who were "suspect" selections? Marsh, Marsh, Paine in particular?

I mean it's good they get the praise, but over the last couple tests, I've got the distinct impression they're really trying to drive home the point - like they're "brainwashing" the viewing audience about how good the selections are, and how right the selectors got it.

I think its just blatant australian barracking of any form. They were extremely hesitant to criticise the melbourne pitch even though most other outlets were teeing off on it and it was rated as poor.

Channel 9 for years on end has been blantant barricking for the Aussie. Won’t change.

The commentary team is basically coached by CA

Hence why I mute the tv and listen to the BBC coverage.

Re: The Ashes 2017/2018

The kid has gone alright I reckon, bowled enough good balls to keep the batsmen honest. Bowls a decent wrongun, gives it a rip, decent control. A little bit of Stewie MacGill in his action. Doesn't come over the top with his arm as much though which will stop him getting as much bounce. Worth another look at this level. Test Cricket, especially Pommie Test cricket will be richer if this kid can develop into a decent Test cricketer. Technique wise needs to put a bit more bounce into his action and bowl a few more over the top and less roundarm and he'll cause problems. A better Test prospect than Adam Zampa by a fair bit.

Re: The Ashes 2017/2018

This is good hard Test Cricket. The pitch gave a little bit early on day 1, has got better over the last two days and is starting to take some serious turn. Should deteriorate more tomorrow and make batting difficult by late day 4 and day 5. A quality Test pitch, hope the MCG curator is watching this.

Don't normally just blindly stick up for the SA boys but ffs Sayers is extremely stiff not to be in that squad.

Surely the SAF pitches would be to his absolute liking!!

Bancroft, Holland and Richardson very lucky

The way Philander has been moving the ball in the first two Tests against India would indicate Sayers would have loved conditions over there.

Broadcasting veteran Peter Walsh will be heavily involved with both the SANFLW and SANFL League Broadcast in season 2018, including the Digital Pass coverage.

Fans should look forward to some great initiatives and the quality of the broadcast coverage going to another level.

Suspect there will be a lot of new voices heard throughout the various coverage platforms.

Not sure if there will be any radio coverage, but the Digital Pass will still be happening.

Re: Things that you rate!

Winning outright against Cove today, perfect timing as our 40th year celebration is tonight, will be a big night for the club. My first outright win in any grade of cricket.

Congrats lad, my most memorable outright was in A2 turf, four of our blokes had been choofing before the game (our skipper was pulled over by the police on the way to the game and had avoided detection by hopping straight out of his car). The opposition were doing drills an hour before the start, we were either stoned or nursing hangovers (or just lazy), knocked em off by about 20 runs and couldn't stop laughing as their coach went off his tits at them. Lost outright a couple of weeks later against an ordinary opposition and the skipper lost his shit, whilst teeing off on us (which we deserved) chucked a golf ball against the ball that nearly decapitated a couple of us.

Re: Australian Tour of South Africa

He averages 63 > 126 per Test.

63 is his average per completed innings. Doubling it does not get his average runs per test, as there are a number of times he either doesn't bat twice or more importantly, remains not out in an innings.

Smith has scored 6100ish runs over 62 tests. That is, he averages approx. 98 per test.

And that average per Test is greater than any on the list from bennymaccas screenshot...except for the Don.
He is not my favourite skipper (S. Waugh for mine), nor the best to watch (Ricky), but despite all his quirks he has the same passion, and bloody-mindedness that typifies the greats.

I'll still take AB as my number 1. He saved our arse as a cricketing nation almost singlehandedly.

Now footage has emerged of Warner being restrained by team mates as he made a be line for Quinton deKock off the field either after the days play or during a break, was certainly fired up, might be time to put this clown on the plane home

Playing all 3 codes has fried his brain even more, go have a break with the family son.

How good would it have been to see the Cock land one on his gonk, he was obviously being a pillick judging by his team mates, no one else was interested in sticking up for him or even look slightly perplexed.

My take on warner v dekock...
Warners over-reaction was unhinged and out of proportion.
DeKock lied about what was said and backed away from his role.
Both got what they deserved.

Otis Gibson is spot on when he talks of "where is the line?" According to warners logic.. calling someone an effen sook aint personal but dont mention the missus... some one else mt think part a is personal and pt b is fine.

Reminds me a great Eddie Brandis (Zimbabwe) sledge to Pidge.
PIDGE... Why are you so fat Eddie?
BRANDIS... Cos everytime I make love with ur missus she gives me a cookie.

All of the Aussie fielders ensuing laughter added to Pidges discomforture...
